The summer holidays are fast approaching. While the kids are off school, it’s lovely to get a whole lot more time together as a family. Without the daily structure, you might find it difficult to fill all that free time. But fear not, this is the time of the year when the country is full of family events, and planning to visit a few is a great way for all generations to enjoy themselves together. Here are some of the best family orientated events happening in July:
Godiva Festival, Coventry
During the summer, it can be tough to keep the kids away from the big music festivals they are just not quite old enough to attend yet. But between 5th and 7th July, Coventry is offering the perfect solution, with a music festival aimed at families. The three day affair includes performances from Echo & The Bunnymen, Maximo Park and Amelia Lily among many others, and, best of all, it is ticketless and free. Stay in our Coventry hotel to enjoy some great music with the kids.
City of London Festival
For a whole month from the end of June, the capital city is being taken over by culture and entertainment events. You’ll find concerts, theatre, dance performances, art shows and interesting talks in many of the most iconic London venues, and much of it is free. Take the family to the city for the weekend, stay in one of our London hotels and you can guarantee you’ll be kept busy.
The Cotswold Show, Cirencester
If you’re an outdoorsy sort of family, you don’t want to miss The Cotswold Show on the first weekend of July. Cirencester Park will be packed full of adrenaline-inducing activities—including kids’ size quad bikes and Landrovers—Water Buoyz that let you walk on water, pony rides and bumper boats. And if your children are natural born climbers, this event also provides supervision and guidance to help you climb some of the spectacular old trees in the park. There will also be The National Circus to watch and an Old Tyme funfair full of Victorian rides, so make sure you book a room in our Cirencester hotel to be within walking distance.
The Big Cheese, Caerphilly
There is no better way to get the kids to engage with history than to visit an event that brings it all to life. The Big Cheese festival, which takes place next to one of the largest castles in Europe, does just that. Stay in our Caerphilly hotel to spend the last weekend in July watching traditional street entertainers, living history encampments, folk dancing, falconry, fire eating, minstrels, troubadours and all sorts of old fashioned entertainment.
Bristol Harbour Festival
The last weekend in July promises to be serious amounts of fun for any family spending the time in Bristol. If you stay in our Bristol Severn View M48 hotel, you’ll be in sight of all the activity along the river at one of the UK’s largest public festivals. While the event is particularly well known for its dance performances, it also offers festival goers the chance to dance aboard the many moored ships that will be set up as concert venues. Some of the most historic boats will actually be floating up and down the river too, and if you get organised, you can book a ride on one of them that your family certainly won’t forget.
