August Entertainment Round-up

There’s no better way to enjoy the fact that summer has finally arrived than by planning some great days out. August is packed with events and there are plenty of theatre performances, carnivals and food festivals to frequent. Get tickets or make plans to go to some summer celebrations, and then book a weekend away around it. Here is a round-up of some of the top entertainment events planned for this coming month.

Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe

Probably the highlight of the UK’s theatre calendar is just around the corner. Between 9th August and 1st September, Edinburgh is the place to be for anyone who enjoys plays, shows, performances or just a jolly good atmosphere. Thousands of people flock to the city for both the highbrow International Festival, which includes theatre, opera, dance and music, and for the world’s biggest arts festival in the form of the Fringe. The latter is more of an adventure, where you’ll find hidden gems and all sorts of things to do even for those on the tightest of budgets. Stay in one of our Edinburgh hotels to experience this one of a kind event.

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

Between 8th and 11th August, Aston Court in Bristol is taken over by hot air balloons and ballooning enthusiasts. For four days, the sky will be full of balloons of all sizes, including famous and historic balloons. The Nightglow events see the balloons ascend in darkness and are one of the highlights of the event, but the grounds are full of things to do and see all throughout the weekend. Stay in our Bristol Central hotel to enjoy it all.

Notting Hill Carnival

One of the most famous parties in the UK is happening on the last full weekend in August. With its street parades, booming music, food, dancing and general feel good vibes, Notting Hill Carnival is simply not to be missed. Accommodation in the area gets snapped up, and driving in for the day is near impossible, so book your room in one of our London hotels early to make sure you get a chance to join in the fun.

The Great British Beer Festival

If sitting in the sun with a cold pint in your hand is your idea of heaven, you just can’t miss this massive festival in the capital between 13th and 17th August. With more than 800 real ales, ciders and foreign beers to try, you can guarantee you’ll be busy tasting for the whole five days. If you manage to tear yourself away from the beer stands for an hour or two, there will be plenty of live music and other interesting festival stalls to peruse.

Brighton Pride

When it comes to Pride Parades, one in the LGBT capital of the UK has got to be the biggest and best. On 3rd August the streets of Brighton will be taken over by the most inclusive and colourful march of people, all dressed to this year’s theme of ‘Gay Icons’. But the festival includes much more than just the parade, with music, a cabaret tent, a dog show, and new this year, a film and arts side to the Pride festival too. Stay in our Brighton hotel to be a part of it.
