By the time August comes around it can often feel as though the school holidays are beginning to drag. If you’re running out of ideas for how to tear away the kids from TV screens and computers, then why not plan a family trip away for a special summer event? August is full of family festivals and activity days, and here are some of the best ones for all the brood.
If your kids want the chance to see their TV idols in real life, then take them to the Lollibop festival at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. The Mr. Men, Peppa Pig, Sid Sloane and Andy Day will all be doing meet and greets, so you can delight in your children’s glee as they meet their favourite characters. There will also be all sorts of educational interactive exhibits, outdoor play areas and craft stations, so book a room in our Stratford hotel for 16th to 18th August so you don’t miss out.
Kids Week isn’t just a week. In fact, it’s an entire month. For the whole of August, under-16s can delight in the magic of London theatre for free. Many of the capital’s best shows will be giving out complimentary childrens’ tickets, so why not book to see Jersey Boys, Stomp or We Will Rock You? Stay in one of our London hotels and combine this with a tour of some of London’s top sights for a great family trip away.
Swansea Summer Roller
Get the kids rolling and boogieing at the Swansea Summer Roller, a rollerblading event at the Admiral Roller Rink. With funky tunes and all the kit to hire, this event will also feature an artificial beach and a traditional funfair. Get your skates on and plan a visit between the 14th and 27th August. To make the most of this great opportunity for family bonding, book to stay in our Swansea Central hotel for a fantastic break. Good luck trying to stay upright!
Doune the Rabbit Hole
If you’re looking for something a little bit different to do with the family, there’s no better time to venture up north than from the 22nd to the 25th August. On the beautiful Cardross Estate, not far from our Stirling M80 hotel, you’ll find the wonderful Doune the Rabbit Hole music festival. The line-up includes Bombskare, Okestra del Sol, Clinic, Alasdair Roberts and many more. There will be theatre and all sorts of family-aimed performances too. There’s a bonus – under-12s get in for free!
Any environmentally-conscious soul will love the solar powered family festival Croissant Neuf in Monmouthshire. The event won the Greenest Festival in the UK at the UK Festival Awards for the third time running last year, but it isn’t just about looking after the environment – it’s mostly about having fun. There will be lots of shows, stalls, exhibits and events to keep everyone entertained. There’s even a ‘medieval merriment’ theme this year, promising to add a kooky twist. Base yourself in our Monmouth hotel and make the most of this celebration of green living.
