Looking for an excuse to get away this month? There are so many events going on all over the UK, and booking tickets to something gives you a reason to get out and explore the country a bit. If you’re feeling in need of a break from the rat race, book a trip to one of these events for a perfect weekend away:
1) Edinburgh International Film Festival
The summer in Edinburgh is best known for the theatre-centered Edinburgh Festival. But, in fact, June sees the city host another event that is equally as impressive, and perhaps a little less overwhelming. The International Film Festival is a hotbed of filmmaking talent, and shows some of the best independent and commercial new films. In the recent past, it has premiered films like Billy Elliot, Little Miss Sunshine and Ratatouille, so you can bet there’ll be some big hits debuting there this June. Stay in our one of Edinburgh hotels to see the best the international filmmaking community has to show.
2) Royal Cornwall Show
There’s no denying that life moves at a different pace down in the West Country. But if you think that means things are sleepy in Cornwall, you need to visit the Royal Cornwall Show this June. The county’s biggest annual event is packed with things to see and do. The show is part agricultural, so you’ll have plenty of chance to see the best of the UK’s farming practices and produce, as well as some great examples of its livestock. But the festival is all about culture too, with dozens of theatrical and musical performances, as well as art exhibits and stalls selling all things Cornish. Stay in our Wadebridge hotel to be in the thick of it all.
3) Viva Forever!
Sadly, Viva Forever! will not be lasting forever, as this show, based on the songs of the Spice Girls, will be closing at the end of June. Make sure you get your tickets to this epic West-End show before then, and take your girlfriends for a good old, 90s throw-back night. Or bring the kids and introduce them to the era of proper pop music they just missed out on. Stay in one of our London hotels to combine the show with a weekend in the capital and the chance to do a bit of sight-seeing.
4) Bath Fringe Festival
The beginning of June in Bath is a culture fan’s heaven, with over 200 events taking place during the 17-day festival. The Bath Fringe Festival includes theatre, music, and a lot of stand-up comedy. Book tickets ASAP to ensure you get a seat at Georgie Fame’s performance, or Simon Munnery’s set. Stay at our Bath hotel to spend a few days in this UNESCO world heritage site of a city, where you can see the Roman baths, the famous Royal Crescent, and drink the “unusual” tasting healing waters at The Pump Room.
5) The Scoop at More London
Next to London City Hall is a huge outdoor amphitheatre that will play host to whole programme of events this June. The Scoop at More London Free Festival will include theatre, music, films and fringe performances. Best of all, as the title suggests, it’s all free, so you don’t even need tickets. Just turn up when the weather’s nice, and enjoy a show in the sun.
