Festival season is almost upon us, which means the UK is preparing to host some of the best music around. Whether you’re the sort of person who spends every weekend at gigs, or you only get tickets to something once a year, June is the time when you ought to be heading to music events. Here are a few of the biggest and best ones planned for this month:
Perhaps the father of the modern music festival, Glastonbury has got to be the highlight of the summer music season. But if you’re thinking that event is all about drunk teenagers getting covered in mud, think again. There’s a whole other side to the festival that makes it the perfect place to take the family, with theatre and circus shows, green living demonstrations and activities, and an entire Kidz Field. Stay in our Glastonbury hotel to avoid the camping mayhem.
Let’s Rock Bristol!
This festival in the grounds of Blaise Castle is all about a time when music was altogether more rocking. If you’re a fan of the 80s, and want to introduce your un-knowing children to the epic era of music, head to Bristol for the 8th June. The event, which is specifically family friendly and very reasonably priced, includes performances from Billy Ocean, Howard Jones and ABC among many others. There’ll also be a children’s circus, and a children’s 80s-themed play area, as well as some great food and bar options. Why not stay in our Bristol hotel and make a weekend of it?
Isle of Wight Festival
Few more music festivals in the UK are as summery as the celebrated Isle of Wight Festival. It’s not only the cracking line up, which includes The Killers, Ellie Goulding and Bon Jovi, which makes this place special; the island itself is a brilliant setting for a weekend away. Stay in our Isle of Wight hotel for the chance to combine the best weekend of music with some relaxing beach time and even a bit of sight-seeing.
Glasgow Jazz Festival
If screaming crowds are not your thing, perhaps the laidback vibe of the Glasgow Jazz Festival will be more your cup of tea. See the biggest names in jazz, funk and blues, as well as some unique world music. There are so many concerts to choose from, but don’t miss the (free!) late night jam sessions, as that’s where the magic is always made. Stay in one of our Glasgow hotels to experience the whole five day event.
Rod Stewart Tour
The legend himself is on tour this month. See him at the O2 Arena at the beginning of June, or make your way to Manchester to catch him on the weekend of the 8th June. You could always include that with a trip to Parklife, which will be taking place the same weekend at Heaton Park, just outside Manchester, and promises performances from The Macabees, Plan B and many others. Stay in one of our Manchester hotels to see it all.
Holland Park Opera
If you’re not really into the music of the moment, you’ll find something much more timeless going on at Holland Park throughout June. See Madam Butterfly or Pagliacci, all in the setting of the great outdoor, but covered, Holland Park Opera Stage. Bring a picnic and reserve a table on one of the decks for the full opera experience. Stay in our Fulham hotel so you don’t have to worry about a long journey home, and can relax and enjoy the bar at the event.
