May Sports Roundup

iStock_rugby.JPGThere is something about the month of May. Not only is the weather starting to look up, but Spring is turning into Summer and we can look ahead to some fantastic sporting events.

It’s Premier League football’s last hurrah before the great and good of the beautiful game focus on a little tournament called the World Cup, while that quintessentially British tradition of the FA Cup is also a May highlight.

In rugby we’ve got the Heineken Cup final in the cauldron that is the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, while Glasgow and London will be the location of some fun in the sun as they hold the final stages of the Emirates Airline 7’s tournament.

And if that’s not enough, this year’s Natwest T20 Blast kicks off in May, as the country’s finest county cricket sides face off in what is sure to be an explosive tournament.

So with all that in mind sports fans, here are some of May’s biggest and best events for you to sink your teeth into.

1. Emirate Airline Glasgow 7’s, Scotstoun Stadium – May 3-4

A whole weekend of fast-paced rugby, entertainment, music and fun kicks off at Glasgow’s Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday May 3, as the Emirate Airline 7’s bandwagon rolls into Scotland.

Not only have you got world class rugby, there’s plenty of room for the whole family to clown around both during and in between matches – which is lucky, as this year’s fancy dress theme is the circus!

Local boys Scotland will be popular, but teams from England, New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, Wales and the USA will all be present and correct – ready to entertain the masses.

2. The final day of the Premier League season, Nationwide – May 11

This is it. A whole season of ups and downs culminates in this final 90 minutes for many Premier League teams. Can Man City reclaim the crown they lost to rivals Manchester United last season? Will Mourinho use his special brand of managerial magic to lead Chelsea to Premier League glory? Can Wenger fill that dusty Arsenal trophy cabinet for the first time in a while?

All will be revealed, but we recommend having a look at our Liverpool hotels and taking in Liverpool v Newcastle where the Reds could win their first title in 24 years.

3. Surrey v Middlesex Panthers, The Kia Oval – May 30

The Natwest T20 Blast kicks off in style at the Kia Oval as Surrey host Middlesex Panthers on Friday May 30.

The likes of Kevin Pietersen and Jade Dernbach will be under the Friday night lights and looking to entertain with bat and ball.
