May’s Live Entertainment Roundup

With such easy access to entertainment on television, it’s easy to forget about going to see shows of all sorts live. But book yourself and your family tickets to something this May, and you’ll remember what all the fuss was about. There are very few experiences more enjoyable for all the family than the excitement of going to see a show in a theatre. Here are a few of the events going on in May that are well worth getting tickets for:

Mayfesto Theatre festival

Glasgow is all about “agenda-based” theatre between 1st and 20th May. In other words, if you want to see some cracking new plays, and some of the best acting Scotland has to offer, you should plan a visit up north. Book a room in one of our Glasgow hotels, and get your tickets early. Fill up a long weekend with some culture, at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, a little bit of shopping on Buchanan Street, and plenty of good food, like the surprising local delicacy of deep-fried pizza (seriously).

Eddie Izzard at The BIC

Eddie Izzard is one of the biggest names in stand up comedy, and he’s on tour this spring. The various venues include a 3-day stint in Bournemouth between 18th and 20th May, so this is the perfect opportunity to get in a little trip to the south coast. Brave Bournemouth Beach or Hengistbury Head and you might just be treated to some early summer sun. Otherwise, there’s plenty to keep you busy at Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, or the Oceanarium. Book a room in our Bournemouth hotel, take the family, and enjoy!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Theatre Royal Drury Lane, starting on May 18th

First, it was a brilliant book. Then, it was a great film. Now, it’s a spectacular musical, and the kids will be more taken with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory than ever. To watch dancing oompa loompas and to witness chocolate rivers, book a room in our Covent Garden hotel and you’ll be two minutes’ walk form the theatre. But don’t leave without exploring the area a bit, as Covent Garden, its market, and the London Transport Museum are all on your doorstep too.

Magnificent Motors

It might not be the sort of show that happens in a theatre, but Magnificent Motors in Eastbourne is quite some spectacle. With over 600 classic cars in attendance, the free event on 4th and 5th May will enthrall everyone, even those who aren’t motoring enthusiasts. Book a room in our Eastbourne hotel to witness the show, and then make the most of what this seaside town has to offer. Walk along the cliffs at Beachy Head, explore the pier, or take the kids to the pirate themed park at Treasure Island. You might almost be able to convince yourself it’s summer.
