Is it November already? Yes, it is. Which means we’re just a month away from the real Christmas season, but there’s plenty happening between now and then to keep you and the family amused. If the winter is getting you down, why not plan a little trip away with the kids? Here are some of the best events going on around the UK this November, so you can find the perfect excuse for a mini break:
The Somerset Carnivals are considered the biggest illuminated processions in the world. You might not imagine the peaceful county to be the centre of a massive party, but come November, you’ll see the area transformed. Parades march through the large towns, following three different circuits that cover the entire county. Between 2nd November and 16th, you’ll find illuminated floats making their way through Somerset, and hundreds of spectators out to watch them. Stay in our Glastonbury hotel to be at the heart of the action.
Manchester German Market
Christmas comes early to Manchester, but this event is a celebration of all things winter so you don’t have to feel bad about starting the advent season too early. The German Market will take over St. Ann’s Square from November 15th and you can expect to be overwhelmed by the pretty little cottages and festive decorations if you decide to pay a visit. This is the perfect opportunity to buy hand-carved wooden ornaments, German style Christmas gifts and lots of glüwein and gingerbread. Book your room in one of our Manchester hotels to experience the German festivities.
The Lord Mayor’s Show
For something a bit different and a real slice of this country’s history, head to London for 9th November and book the family into one of our London hotels. The Lord Mayor’s Show is one of the oldest, most celebrated events on the calendar, with its roots stretching all the way back to the 1500s. The main procession, which stretches for over three miles from Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice and back again, is a spectacular display of pageantry and children will love the chance to see the soldiers and dignitaries in full garb.
The Nutcracker On Ice in Cardiff
Cardiff is hosting an all-star ice-skating cast for 9 days in November, and now’s the chance to get your tickets. The Nutcracker, one of the absolute wintertime classic shows, is at its finest as performed by The Imperial Ice Stars, which include ITV’s Dancing On Ice duo Keith Chegwin and Olga Sharutenko. Stay in our Cardiff Central hotel to treat your kids to a show they’ll never forget.
Oban Winter Festival
The Scots know how to do winter, and if you head up to Oban in late November (starting from the 22nd) you’ll see that cold weather doesn’t have to stop you having a whole lot of outdoors fun. Events during the festival include parades, concerts, dance performances, farmers’ markets, face-painters, games, and a light show on the Esplanade. The festival and the picturesque town are a great day trip from our Glasgow Central hotel.
