For the laughs: Spamalot

Monty Python is one of the most loved institutions in British entertainment, and Spamalot seeks to keep expanding the empire. The show, which won a Tony award for Best Musical, tells the classic tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, in a hilariously un-classical manner. There is no one safe from ridicule or silliness in this epic adventure musical, and you can bet your stomach muscles will be sore from lauging.

For its critical acclaim: One Man, Two Guvnors

Practically every media outlet out there gave this one five stars. It’s laugh-till-you-cry funny, and full of phenomenally clever satire, as well as some good old slapstick and songs. Winning three outer critics’ circle awards, this show really is British comedy at its finest.

For the kids (even of the grown-up variety): Wicked

The untold story of the Wizard of Oz is a musical as musicals should be done. The show has everything from a big cast, to crazy special effects, to a plot you can sink your teeth into, to huge musical numbers that you’ll be singing for weeks after. Having won over 90 awards world wide, this is one of the most popular and celebrated shows of all time, and you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to take the family to see what all the hype is about.

For the music: Thriller Live

There is no dispute that Michael Jackson was the King of Pop. This show paying tribute to him and his songs has got audiences on their feet the whole world over. Expect over two hours of electric atmosphere and fierce music, including hits like ABC, I Want You Back, Billie Jean, and, of course, Thriller.

For something alternative: Swan Lake Reloaded

If the words “Swan Lake” make you think of delicate ballerinas in pretty pink tutus, you’re in for a shock at Swan Lake Reloaded. Choreographer Fredrik Rydman’s take on the ballet classic is a whole new level of edgy, with street dance, electro, smart phones and special effects all playing a role. Evil sorcerers become drug dealers, while swan maidens become heroine-addicted prostitutes, so be prepared for some serious intensity.
