August is always a month of musical madness. The British festival season rages on whilst fantastic gigs take place round the country. Here is our August guide to the musical events that really shouldn’t be missed:
V festival is one of the main UK festivals of the summer and this year it rocks Chelmsford and Staffordshire on Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th of August. The line-up is incredible with Justin Timberlake and The Killers headlining on consecutive days. There will also be appearances from Lilly Allan, Paolo Nutini, Ed Sheeran and the Kaiser Chiefs as well as a fabulous comedy line-up including Alan Carr and Adam Hills. V festival is all about the atmosphere and Virgin make sure you get what you come for. If you don’t fancy roughing it in the camp site then staying at a nearby Travelodge is a great option for resting your weary ears!
As well as headlining at Reading and Leeds Festival in August, Blink 182 have announced two concert dates at the 02 Brixton Academy in London on the 6th and 8th of August. Blink 182 promises to play a classic punk pop gig with plenty of new and edgy tunes added to their older classics. Staying nearby at this Vauxhall London Travelodge, will mean you don’t have to battle with transport and can stay partying late into the night.
Jessie J is playing several dates in August, starting on the 7th at Sandown Park Racecourse, then travelling on to Haydock Park Racecourse on the 8th before finishing by singing at the poptastic Fusion Festival in Birmingham on the 30th and 31st of August. Other acts include Dizzee Rascal, Pitbull and Neon Jungle, making the festival a massive date for the diary. Annie Mac Presents
Annie Mac Presents returns to iconic London venue Koko on the 9th of August. This late night event is bound to get you dancing as all the best up and coming acts take to the stage whilst live sets from the best DJs in the country make Annie Mac Presents one of the most unmissable night life events around. Right in the middle of Camden, Koko is worth visiting on any day and has a wide selection of club nights and concerts to choose from. Tickets will also be available on the day starting from as little as £18. Carry on partying into the early hours before crawling into bed at a London hotel so that you don’t have to worry about navigating the night bus system.
Sinead O’Connor is another iconic musician playing multiple dates in August. Starting with a gig at Cherry Hinton Hall on the 1st during Cambridge Folk Festival, Sinead will then travel on to play at Camp Bestival on the 3rd before singing at The Roundhouse in Camden on the 12th. She then continues on her tour playing in Dublin on the 16th, at Greenbelt Festival on the 24th and finally at Electric Picnic on the 31st. Sinead’s new album is due for release in August, so expect to hear new tracks alongside the old. Electric Picnic is an exciting Irish festival where O’Connor will be joined by musical legends Blondie, Portishead and Outcast.
