5 Top Co-Working Spaces in London

Ever find yourself stuck in town between meetings with time to spare? These days, if you have a laptop in your bag, all you need is a decent wi-fi connection and a cosy place to sit and you set up office anywhere. London is full of great spaces for the modern wave of digital nomads. Here are some of our favourites:

  1. Ziferblat

This hyper-cool workspace arrived in London from the Continent a couple of years ago. Their unique concept is to charge you for the time you spend in the space (5p a minute), rather than for tea or cake when you’re there. The idea is that no one will rush you or give you questioning looks if you’re not constantly buying another cup, so you can relax and get down to business. They even offer spare charging cables for most tablets and laptops just in case you left yours behind. There is a fully equipped kitchen offering as much tea, coffee and toast as you can consume, and the atmosphere is friendly.

  1. The Southbank Centre

The Southbank Centre is a publicly-funded series of venues set on the bustling Southbank, close to Waterloo train station and our London Central Waterloo hotel. The main building is bright and airy and there are plenty of places to sit and get on with your work or to conduct a meeting. The wi-fi is reliable and no one will rush you. Note: the space is popular with new mums as it’s buggy-friendly, however the neighbouring National Theatre also have free wi-fi in their huge lobby, so you can re-locate if the noise becomes too much.

  1. Google Campus

Google run this creative workspace in the heart of London’s tech hub. You need to supply information about your business when you arrive and technically there is an application process, but it only takes a couple of minutes. Once you’re signed up it’s totally free to use the basement workspace. If you work in the tech field or are keen to connect with people who do, this is a smart place to head to.

  1. The Timberyard

This trendy coffee shop is a favourite with London’s media types. They have two branches, one predictably in Old Street and one in Seven Dials, right in the heart of London’s West End. It gets busy around lunch time, but this is where some of the most influential people in the entertainment and hospitality businesses meet. The cake and coffee are pretty good too, and our London Covent Garden hotel is just a short walk away.

  1. Department of Coffee and Social Affairs

This chain of coffee shops welcomes freelancers and has business-friendly locations in Farringdon, Chancery Lane, Carnaby Street and Spitalfields. The owners are keen to play their part in ‘social affairs’, so many of the products are fair trade. They are also delicious. Finding a power point for your laptop can be a challenge, so be prepared and charge up in advance.
