Work on the go

Business travel can be exhausting, and keeping track of all of your expenses, reservations and meetings can leave you knee-deep in paperwork and admin. Luckily, there’s an app for that, or rather, several apps for that.

Before you pack up and ship out, take a look at these time-saving technologies that make business travel simple.

1. Expensify

By this time, you know that cramming receipts into the back pocket of your wallet and writing down mileage reports on scraps of paper don’t really work.

Streamline your process with this app that lets you take pictures of your receipts, import transactions from your credit card bill and track your time for invoicing. Business Insider named Expensify their best business travel app and it already has 2.5 million users. Perhaps best of all, you can download it for free.

2. Stay

Heading to a new city and not sure where you’re going? Stay gives you free downloadable city maps complete with signposts for the best sights, restaurants, cultural hotspots and bars. And, even better, it lets you access them when you’re not connected to the internet. You can even geo-locate yourself so you can see where you’re going despite having no Wifi signal. It’s perfect for drivers and flyers who are often stuck without a network connection, or anyone without a data allowance. Wifi access is available throughout our Travelodge hotels, so you can create new lists and download guides before you set out.

3. GateGuru

It claims to be reinventing the way we travel, and free app GateGuru has already won an army of fans around the world.

Easy peasy

Not only does the app track your flight and give you the latest departure information, it also tells you about shops and restaurants around the airport, so you know exactly where you need to go to get your last-minute gifts and snacks. GateGuru also gives you user reviews so you know what to expect when you arrive.

4. TripIt

Available for free or for a small fee for the ad-free version, TripIt will automatically connect to your email account, find confirmation emails and put them into an itinerary for your trip. The app can handle flights, hotel and restaurant reservations, including Travelodge, car hire and even meetings. If the app doesn’t recognise an email reservation you can simply forward it across. To make your life even easier, TripIt will also offer you directions between locations if it’s clear that you’re likely to be moving from one to the other.

5. Evernote

Whether you’re on the move or not, Evernote is a busy mind’s best friend. Allowing you to take and store notes, documents, web clippings and even voice memos, this is the app that organises your thought system and becomes your digital filing cabinet. Arrange your thoughts into different folders (perhaps one for each project you’re working on) and access your account from any digital device via the cloud. This is the Marmite of business travel apps; either you love it or you just don’t get it. Either way, it has 34 million users worldwide, so it’s got to be worth a try.
