Time to revamp that summer wardrobe but scared to break the bank? Maybe you’re after some bits for your new home but have spent too much on it already. Relax. Your stay at Travelodge is about to save you money in more ways than one.

We’ve got a raft of London hotels spanning the breadth of our celebrated capital – so whether you choose to stay centrally, in the north, south, east or west, rest assured you’ll be well-placed to cash in on our very own savvy shopping secrets.

Eke it out in the East

Handy from our Hackney hotel, a short hop through vibrant London Fields brings you to charming Broadway Market. It’s an absolute must if you’re into furniture and chintz, or always keen to find second-hand books or rare bits of vintage clothing. Plus there’s an amazing selection of street food to sample – great when you’re trying to cut down on meals out.

You’ll certainly get more than you bargained for at our Aldgate East base, which lies between the buzzing markets of Spitalfields and Petticoat Lane. Each are treasure troves for fabric, jewellery and clothing at down-to-earth prices. London’s oldest market, Spitalfields dates back to the 13th century, and is a great place to see a thriving, modern capital do its thing.

Head to trendy Shoreditch for the reasonably-priced and always boundary-pushing Rough Trade, a haven for music lovers – where vinyl is currency and beards are par for the course. Then there’s innovative BOXPARK, the spiritual home of pop-up shopping and hands-down one of the coolest places in London.

Beyond Retro near Liverpool Street, is another firm local favourite, now famous for its huge range of retro-wear suitable for all age groups and styles. Not to mention nearby Absolute Vintage – clothes start from as little as £1.

Find your price in Oxford Street

You’ve woken up refreshed in a comfy king size bed at one of our central hotels, so it’s high time to start your day of savvy shopping. So where better than at Kingly Court, on the famous Carnaby Street.

The area itself is a mixed bag price-wise, with a healthy combo of designer stores, high street favourites and stylish one-off boutiques. But at Kingly Court you’ll find 3 value-packed storeys of independent clothing, arts and crafts and unique food, with major potential for a great deal.

Elsewhere centrally, there’s plenty to appreciate in terms of high fashion at low prices, like Oxford Circus & Other Stories, part of the H&M stable and packed full of top buys for fashion-savvy shoppers. And when you’re done here, head to Monki if you’re in the market for more fabulous clothes at tiny prices.

A great insider tip, hotly-reduced bits can often be found on Leather Lane – close to Holborn Circus – where you’ll find a cracking range of clothing stores, not to mention Leather Lane Market, one of the top, value food areas in town.

Steals in the South

One of South London’s hidden gems has to be Morleys, the trendy Brixton-based department store. Head here for 4 floors of homeware, lifestyle goods, contemporary fashion trends – it’s even got a mini Topshop which regularly undercuts its larger stablemates in price.

The South is home to arguably London’s best array of charity shops, some of which are known far and wide for their diversity and regular intake of top bargain items.

Fara Kids in Pimlico, for example, is only a short way from our Vauxhall base and a must-visit if you’ve got any little ones to buy for.

Clapham too, is famed for its second-hand stores, small markets and charity scene – well worth a lost afternoon of bargain hunting. Check out Save the Children on the High Street for rough diamonds aplenty, from clothes to bric-a-brac.

No-brainers in the North

If you’ve never been to Camden Market before, now’s the time. For punk-inspired clothing, records, leather gifts and delicious street-food on a budget, it simply has to be this quintessentially London district. It’s got a fun, party vibe and you’ll probably even get to see a live band as you explore.

For true local character, Caledonian Market is one of London’s most distinctive alternative shopping areas. A bric-a-brac haven, it’s a great place to pick up everything from vases and cutlery to rare antique jewellery.

Meanwhile, listed as a top 20 shopping destination by Elle magazine, the Designer Warehouse Sale at Thane Villas comes 12 times a year, and runs for 3 days at a time – so why not organise your trip to coincide with what is always a fantastic bargain opportunity.

Waste not in the West

Look no further than the world-famous Portobello Road Market for your one-stop tour of London’s finest value deals. Whether it’s clothes or music, posters or ceramics – its locality to Notting Hill and leafy Holland Park make shopping here a pleasure to behold.

British Red Cross in Chelsea is a renowned charity store, known as the place the area’s residents like to offload last season’s wardrobe. As such it’s seen as something of a designer charity shop – so if it’s genuine high-end you’re looking for, you’ll be hard-pushed to beat these prices.

If vintage is more your bag then look no further than Cancer Research UK’s outlet on Marylebone High Street. Billed by TimeOut as a “thrifty oasis of calm”, it’s a firm favourites of London College of Fashion students, with a particularly strong line in men’s suits.
