If there’s one image that epitomises the British summer, it has to be the sweeping sands and dramatic coastline of the UK’s finest beaches.

1. Best beach for small children
Situated on the southernmost point of Gower, Port Eynon is an award-winning Blue Flag beach that’ll have kids of all ages begging to come back next year.
With plenty of water sports to try and a lifeguard on duty at all times from May until September, this is the perfect beach for families with small children.
2. Best beach for older kids
Alternatively, the charmingly named Bracelet Bay boasts hundreds of little rock pools and limestone geology to discover, with a small cave for the explorers in your clan. You’ll need to keep an eye out for smaller children as the pools can be slippy, but older kids will adore the chance to meet crabs and wee fishes.
3. Best beach for surf
Llangennith Sands is famous among beach bums everywhere as one of the best surf spots in the Gower. And it’s easy to see why with the swell of the Atlantic lending itself to some serious waves.
This beach is actually the northern chunk of world-famous Rhossili Bay, so you’re in soft-sand, blue-seas heaven.
4. Best beach for land sports
But if you prefer your sport on firm ground, Three Cliffs Bay could be right up your street. If you can see past the iconic landscape and stop taking photographs for long enough, the Bay is also ideal for rock climbing, horse riding and walking.
5. Rhossili: one of the world’s Top 10 beaches
We must end on an indefinable beach, a stretch of coastline that was voted as one of the World’s Top 10 Beaches by TripAdvisor and therefore deserves its own fanfare: Rhossili.
Its prehistoric history is clear to see in the pirate bay-style outcrops and sheer cliffs, while the Rhossili Downs offer a dreamlike view of the beach. With all sorts of nooks and crannies for exploration, clean sand you’ll want to wiggle your toes in, and plenty of water sports plus hang gliding, Rhossili really is the big-name beach to star in your summer holiday.
