Eating out can get a bit boring for the vegetarians amongst us. Continuously chowing down on Pasta Pomodoro, Pizza Margherita and miscellaneous vegetable curry isn’t that exciting. However, there are many great restaurants dedicated to the herbivores amongst us, serving modern and wholesome food that is a treat for vegetarians, vegans and even open-minded meat-eaters. Whatever Travelodge you are staying at, there should always be a suitable foodie haven just around the corner!
The Gate, London
The Gate Restaurant, which has two branches in Islington and Hammersmith, is an award-winning Restaurant that is very popular with foodies from all kinds of dietary backgrounds. The dishes comes from a diverse cultural background and promote the use of seasonal ingredients. The desserts are also to die for and I would thoroughly recommend the Chocolate and Chestnut Torte with Caramelized Kumquats. The Gate also does an excellent weekend brunch!
Terre à Terre, Brighton
Terre à Terre is an indulgent vegetarian restaurant, perfect for the diners who are looking to give themselves a real treat. Opened in 1993, Terre à Terre began as a simple BYO but has gone from strength to strength. Try starting with a Brûlée Vous, a naughty Grand Padano Brûlée served with Bay Cream and Gingerbread Crumbs, Pickled Jerusalem Artichokes, Grilled Shallots with Poire William and Raisin Relish and Buttered Baby English Muffins. Go on with one of the exquisite Rosti dishes and finish with a divine Miss Marble, Snappy Pistachio wafers served with Snow Balls, Kalamansi Clementine Spice Ice, Almond Amaretto Freeze, Coconut Rum Ball and Sparkles. Three courses costs just £26!
Greens is an innovative vegetarian restaurant, the head chef Simon Rimmer started the restaurant as a novice but is now an acclaimed TV chef! Starters include a Roquefort, Pecan and Tarragon Cheesecake, mains range from Jamaican Pepperpot Stew to Lancashire Cheese and Basil Sausages and once again, desserts wow with dishes like Peanut Butter and Jelly Cheesecake and a weekly Vegan dessert.
David Bann, Edinburgh
This stylish restaurant in the heart of the old town oozes elegance and serves delicious food to boot! The menu is incredibly varied taking influence from all over the globe. I recommend the Thai Fritter of Spiced Broccoli and Smoked Tofu to start, followed by the exciting Chilli Pancake with grilled Sweet Potato, Courgette and Chocolate Sauce and then the Whisky Pannacotta with Warm Pear.
Dandelion & Burdock, West Yorkshire
After learning his trade in health conscious California, David Wilson cooks up a range of tantalizing vegan dishes to wow his guests. The small menu offers starters such as Beetroot Cakes, delicious mains such as Black Bean Burro and Sweet Potato Pie and surprisingly hearty desserts such as Chocolate Rum Bread and Butter Pudding and Orange Cake. The restaurant is excellent value as starters and desserts are under £5 and mains are priced at just £10!
