Airshows to look forward to this summer

airshow

When summer arrives, there is no better way to enjoy the clear skies than by watching an air show. Appealing to kids with dreams of flying planes and adults alike, the festivals make for great days out for weekends away. Gather round the family or your close friends, and book to visit somewhere that will be showing off these airplanes’ impressive skills. Here are some of the best air shows this summer:

Royal International Air Tattoo

If it’s got the royal seal of approval, you know it’s going to be good, and the Air Tattoo in Fairford won’t disappoint. The world’s largest military airshow attracts huge crowds and the very best pilots to demonstrate their skills. With a whole host of interactive displays and exhibits, over 250 planes in attendance, as well as the beautiful flying shows, this event is a must. It’s also free for accompanied under 16s. Stay in our Cirencester hotel for the 20th and 21st of July and access the entire weekend’s programme of events.

Clacton Air Show

This air show on the Essex coast is free for all and will make a great end-of-summer trip away on the 22nd and 23rd August. For two days, the seafront is transformed with exhibitions, trade stands, food stalls and entertainment. Of course, the centre piece of the event is the aerobatics shows, which can be watched from the viewing area. Book a room in our Clacton-on-Sea Central hotel to enjoy a great event free of charge!

Eastbourne International Airshow

For four whole days in August, Eastbourne will be all about aeroplanes and what you can do with them. This event is another freebie and with performances from the famous Red Arrows on the agenda, it’s an absolute must. Other aircrafts in attendance include the Eurofighter Typhoon, the RAF’s heavy lift, the Chinook and the classic WWII aircraft B17 Sally B. If none of that means anything to you, don’t worry – book a room in our Eastbourne Willingdon Drove hotel, experience the event and you can bet, you’ll be an aircraft expert before you know it!

Duxford Air Show

The Imperial War Museum in Duxford is the place to be at the beginning of September, as contemporary jet aircraft and historic warbirds will be out on display and doing some aerobatics. The flying shows will take place in the afternoons, but the event runs all day, giving you plenty of time to explore the museum, as well as enjoy the trade stands. Stay in our Cambridge Central hotel for a few days and enjoy all that the university city has to offer as well.

Leuchars Air Show

On the 7th of September, several rare aircrafts will take to the skies in Dundee as part of the Leuchars Air Show, including the Swedish Viggen and the mighty Vulcan bomber. Performance groups include The Typhoon Display Team, Tucano, Sea King and the Falcons Parachute Display Team, as well as the Breitling Wing Walkers, so you’ll have a hard time tearing your eyes away from the sky. Book your room in our Dundee Central hotel to see it all!
