Best autumn views in Ireland

Rock of Cashel, County Tipperary, IrelandIreland is beautiful at any time of the year, but in Autumn, when the leaves are falling, and the weather is getting a little rougher, Ireland’s rugged landscape really comes to life. If you’re in need of a break from a grey office, why not plan a long weekend away for the chance to get back to nature? Here are some of the best Autumn views Ireland has to offer:

Fermanagh Lakes:

The area known as the Lake District of Northern Ireland is perfectly picturesque, particularly when the lakeside forests change colour. The area is great for peaceful walks, boating and fishing too. This year, the G8 Summit was held here, so why not follow in famous political footsteps and see the beauty for yourself?

Giant’s Causeway:

It’s one of the most recognisable geological formations in the world, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive the first time you see it in person. Around this time of the year, the sea is getting rougher, which makes Giant’s Causeway all the more spectacular with waves throwing sea spray into the air. Stay in our Belfast Central hotel as a base for a day trip here.

Rock of Cashel, Tipperary:

This impressive castle on top of a rocky outcrop is ominous at all times of the year, but as we get towards dark evenings and Halloween, the sight of this castle gets the added spook factor. Learn the myth which tells of how the rock itself came from the Devil’s Cave and take a wander around the walled grounds. Our Limerick Castletroy hotel is perfect for a short break here.

Skellig Islands:

Stay in our Cork Airport hotel and you can make the drive west to the part of Ireland furthest out into the Atlantic. From the mainland, you can see the pair of craggy peaked islands where monks used to live. Now, the UNESCO World Heritage Site is inhabited by an impressive puffin population which you can visit on a boat trip.

Killiney Hill:

Dublin should be the first port of call on any trip to Ireland, and there’s no better place to see the city and get your bearings than from the top of Killiney Hill. The panoramic views of the whole of Dublin are breathtaking, particularly as the seasons change and the air gets fresher. Stay in our Dublin City Centre Rathmines hotel and then climb up the steep hill for the view.

Erris Head:

The rocky cliffs at Erris Head are used as a navigation point by many local fishermen and sailors when out at sea but actually, the view from them is even better than the sight of them, so if you’re looking for somewhere to go for a brisk Autumn walk, this headland is ideal. The height and the walk there aren’t for the faint-hearted, but this is the place to visit to feel refreshed in preparation for the slow arrival of winter.
