Christmas is just around the corner and nothing could be better to get you in the holiday spirit than a good old Christmas carol concert.

Here is our pick of this year’s best :

St Martins-in-the-Fields, London

Listen to the Tiffin Boys sing their hearts out at this magical candle lit concert. Conducted by Simon Toyne, the boys will perform Britten’s ‘Ceremony of Carols’. Held at St Martins-in-the-Fields on the 30th of December, this magical night will leave you feeling full of Christmas harmony! Why not stay at the nearby Covent Garden Travelodge and use the time to explore London at Christmas.

Christ Church, Oxford

This concert, held on the 13th and the 20th of December, is one of the best known in the country and for good reason! The tickets are currently sold out but there will be a chance to buy returns on the day. If you manage to get hold of a ticket you really are in for a treat. Directed by Stephen Darlington, the simple service offers a chance to sing you heart out and bask in the delights of the choristers harmonious voices. Stay at the nearby Oxford Travelodge to soak up the surroundings and enjoy the twinkling Christmas lights of Oxford University. If you can’t get hold of tickets the Christmas Bach Choir and The City of Oxford Orchestra can warm your hearts in an equally magical sing-a-long.

King’s College, Cambridge

Rival University town Cambridge also offers one of the countries most famed Carol Concerts in A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. This concert, which is broadcast live on BBC Radio 4 (a tradition which has survived since 1928) is free to attend but the queue starts forming from 7am! If you’re feeling up to the challenge then you will be taking part in a British masterpiece and will be one of the first people to hear the annual newly commissioned Christmas Carol in real life!
