The Best of Sundance Film and Music Festival

iStock_cinematicket.JPGFilm and music lovers should definitely head towards this year’s London Sundance Film and Music Festival, held at The 02 from the 25th to the 27th of April. The third annual London Sundance is a showcase of the best independently released films alongside Q & As, live music and exciting panel discussions. Tickets can be bought in advance for individual screenings, in packs of 10 or separately for the filmakers workshops.

Here is our pick of the festivals highlights:

1. Memento, Reservoir Dogs and Winter’s Bone

In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the American Sundance Film Festival, these three widely celebrated Sundance discovered films will be screened in all their glory at the O2. Christopher Nolan’s Memento premiered in 2001 at Sundance, launching Nolan’s career before he went on to direct the Batman trilogy whilst Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs propelled the his career into action after its 1992 release. Winter’s Bone, directed by Debra Granik, features Jennifer Lawrence in one of her first film roles before she went on to win an academy award for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook.

2. Axiom & Archive

During the opening night of The London Sundance Film Festival, Archive (the band) will perform and DJ live at the Brooklyn Bowl (In the London O2). The South London based collective will also present their collaborative film Axiom. After completing an album of the same name earlier in the year, Archive immediately began working on their film with Spanish film collective NYSU. The film tells the story of a mysterious island named “Axiom” which is home to an underground city that is ruled over by a bell which decides the fate of its people. Tickets can be bought as part of a music and film package.

3. Shorts Workshop

Aspiring film makers should not miss out on the Short Film Workshop. Most film makers start with short films, as they’re much more accessible to make than a costly full feature film. The Saturday seminar will introduce a series of discussions and panels that will offer advice on the world of film and the people who inhabit it. The Sundance Shorts competition is another great highlight of the festival and can be entered by anybody and everybody who is resident in the UK. The workshop is a great way to learn the tricks of the trade from the experts. You’ll not only learn how to go about making a great short film but also how to present your short film and how the festival world works. Maybe next yea you could be a winner!
