A Girls’ Weekend in Bournemouth

Girls cheering with bubbly

A weekend with the girls is practically guaranteed to be serious fun. When the stress of work (or the kids being home for the summer) has worn you out, why not round up girlfriends and spend a long weekend away from it all?

With its combination of beach, nightlife, and sights to see, Bournemouth is an ideal place to escape to. Stay in our Bournemouth hotel and follow these suggestions for the perfect girls’ weekend:

1. Hit The Beach

There is no better way to unwind and begin your weekend than by heading to the beach. While the main Bournemouth beach is great for people-watching and being in the middle of it all, Hengistbury Head is the place to go for natural beauty and some great photo opportunities along the cliffs.

2. See Some Sights

What group of girls doesn’t like to coo over some beautiful animals? The Oceanarium is a must in Bournemouth, and makes a great break from the sun (or shelter from inclement weather should you be less fortunate…). For a bit of culture, head to the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum. Here you’ll find the impressive collection of a wealthy couple who loved to travel, plus a very good café for some tea and cake. The Pier is worth a quick look, especially as it’s free in the evenings.

3. Browse The Shops

Right near the Travelodge hotel, Bournemouth High Street is pedestrianized and has some excellent shopping opportunities. But for something a bit different, head to Boscombe for the open air market – it’s only a few minutes by land train or bus. There are also some lovely independent shops and cafés in Southbourne.

4. Eat Out

Cliff Top Restaurant is a great bet for a special meal out, with a hearty British menu. But if being by the sea has got you thinking fish & chips, Chez Fred is the local favourite. Why not get it to take away and head for the beach?

5. Go Out On The Town

For a glam night out, Bar So is an ideal destination, with fabulous cocktails and a glitzy lounge. If ticketed events are your thing, you’ll find endless live music at venues like the Bournemouth International Centre and the O2 Academy. There are also some great theatres, comedy clubs, and even a 6D cinema (yes, that’s right), so you won’t go short on the nightlife!

6. Revive With Brunch

No girls’ weekend would be complete without at least one ‘morning-after’ brunch. And why not do it with a stunning view of the sea at Urban Reef, on the beach? They serve everything from healthy porridge to the full English, and there’s even kipper on the menu if you’re feeling particularly seaside-ish.
