International Hamburger Day – where to get the best burger in the UK

Bacon Cheeseburgers

Is there any food better than the hunger crunching hamburger?

The soft bun, the succulent meaty centre, melted cheese dripping down the sides and all manner of toppings and accompaniments – and that’s just the traditional offering!

Nowadays, gourmet burgers are a big deal. From unusual ingredients to mammoth sized patties – burgers are big business. Which is exactly why it’s no surprise that Wednesday May 28 is International Hamburger Day!

Lots of burger joints big and small, independent and chain stores will be celebrating this tastiest of days, but what better way to enjoy the Wednesday to end all Wednesdays than to check out the best burgers the UK has to offer?

With that in mind, here are three places that sell the finest burgers, wherever you are on this fair isle of ours. Enjoy!

1. Honest Burgers, London

One of the first (and still one of the best) of a new breed of burger joints, Honest Burgers in London does exactly what it says on the tin.

There’s something to be said for doing a few simple things really well, which is exactly the foundations Honest Burgers is built on. Their signature offering is the one to try, as the Honest Burger boasts a perfectly cooked patty, with red onion relish, smoked bacon, mature cheddar, pickled cucumber and lettuce. So simple, but so delicious.

There are a number of branches, but we recommend the Brixton Village outlet for a great day out! Check out our London hotels if you fancy checking out what else the capital has to offer.

2. Solita, Manchester

Hyperbole aside, Solita in Manchester has one burger you simply have to try – and luckily it has a name to match its reputation. The Once In A Lifetime Burger boasts buttermilk fried chicken, pulled pork, onion rings, lettuce, melted vintage cheddar and chow chow sauce – is your mouth watering yet?

Our Manchester hotels offer the perfect place to sleep off the inevitable food coma you go into after taking on this burger to end all burgers!

3. Hollyrood 9A, Edinburgh

A stone’s throw from the Scottish Parliament, Hollyrood 9A is an Edinburgh staple and the place to try, unsurprisingly, The Holyrood burger.

Consisting of a patty cooked to perfection with Hereford Hop cheese, red onion, rocket, beer mustard, caramelised onion Mayo, dill pickle and salad, this is a lesson in subtle flavours coming together to create one amazing burger.

Stay in one of our Edinburgh hotels and explore what is a fantastic city for food, burger or no burger!
