July Sporting Events Round-Up

iStock_cricketSports fanatics are well aware that this time of year brings with it a full calendar of sporting events. But you don’t have to love sports to love summer sporting events – you just have to love Pimm’s and picnics (and who doesn’t?). Whether matches and games get your adrenaline pumping, or provide you with the perfect opportunity to chill out, here are some fixtures to look forward to this July:

The Grand Prix, 4th – 6th July

The heat of the summer is the prime time for watching the tires burn. Silverstone’s mega event is the only place in the UK you’ll get to see Formula One racing, so get your tickets asap. Our Towcester Silverstone hotel is ideally located just three miles from the track, so book a room to enjoy the full F1 experience, including the epic after-race partying.

Tour de France, Stages 1-3, 5th – 7th July

The Tour is beginning in the UK this time, thanks to last year’s winner, Christopher Froome. To watch the epic event begin, head to Leeds, and stay in one of our Leeds hotels, for the 5th July. Stage two, on 6th of July, will begin in York, so book a room in our York Central hotel to catch the bikers on this day. But if you want to see the competitors whizzing through the capital, day three on 7th July is the one for you. Book a room in one of our London hotels, and check out this in depth guide, to make sure you catch it all.

The Open Championship, 13th – 20th July

The oldest of the golf major championships, and the only one held outside the US, this event is ideal for golfing enthusiasts, or those just looking for an excuse to spend the day outside in the sun. Our Wallasey New Brighton hotel is just a short drive from the beautiful Royal Liverpool Golf Course where the event will be happening.

Cricket: England vs. India, throughout July

If there’s ever an opportunity to make the most of the English summer, it’s got to be watching a cricket match. Throughout the month of July, old rivals England and India will be battling it out at the stumps. See them play from 9th – 13th at Trent Bridge, not far from our Nottingham Central hotel, or from 17th – 21st at Lord’s, or from 27th – 31st at The Ageas Bowl, which is close to our Southampton hotel

The Commonwealth Games, 23rd July – 3rd August

Glasgow is the only place to be for the last week in August, because The Commonwealth Games will be back in the UK. With all the sporting excellence and competitiveness of the Olympics, but with an extra friendly atmosphere, this is the perfect event for anyone feeling nostalgic for London 2012. Stay in one of our Glasgow hotels to watch everything from Badminton to Boxing.
