June Sports Roundup

Once the summer finally arrives, sports in the UK really step up a notch. With the possibility of big outdoor gatherings, many of the seasonal sports host their biggest events in June. If you’re a sports enthusiast, or you just like the atmosphere at a big match or game, here are some sporting events not to miss this month:

1)      Wimbledon

Nothing says summer like eating strawberries and cream while watching the tennis at Wimbledon. Whether you’ve got tickets to centre court for the men’s final, or you just plan on joining the crowds on Henman Hill, you can bet you’ll be caught up in the atmosphere. With Andy Murray back out to battle for the title, there’ll be some serious British pride all around. Stay in our Wimbledon Morden hotel to be just a hop, skip and a jump from the centre of the action.

2)      Royal Ascot

Sports events and the opportunity to put on your finest attire don’t normally go hand-in-hand. But Royal Ascot is all about style – both the style with which the jockeys ride their horses, and the style with which you swan around drinking champagne. If you’re lucky enough to be invited to the Royal Enclosure, you can bet you’ll be brushing shoulders with

all of high society, but there’s even more fun to be hand down in the Silver Ring, where the celebrations get rowdy. Book a room at our Bracknell hotel to be within easy reach of bubbly and the betting.

3)      British Grand Prix

The higher the stakes, the more excitement there is in watching a sport, and you don’t get many activities with higher stakes than Formula 1 racing. Between 28th and 30th of June, Silverstone will be packed with car enthusiasts, sitting on the edges of their seats while the cars go whizzing around the track. But there’s not only the car racing to see – the weekend also includes music performances from the likes of Billy Ocean and Stacey Jackson, a show from the Red Arrows, and the chance to get involved in all kinds of small scale racing events. Stay in our Towcester Silverstone hotel to be a part of it.

4)      ICC Champions Trophy

Another classic British summer sport is cricket, and this international tournament demonstrates the best of it. In fact, England and Wales will be hosting the last ever version of this event in its current form, so don’t miss the opportunity to see it. With the best teams coming from all over the world to participate, you can guarantee you’ll witness some incredible play. The first match is set for 6th June in Wales, and sees India face South Africa, but the biggest match promises to be the head off between India and Pakistan on 15th June in Edgbaston. Stay in one of our Manchester hotels for the opportunity to watch it.

5)      Cotswold Olympicks

The Cotsworld Olympicks isn’t your regular sporting event. In fact, there isn’t a sporting event like it, as its roots stretch far back beyond the modern Olympics, and all its traditions have been preserved to this day. If you fancy watching men engage in the 400-year old competition of shin-kicking, or caber-toss-esque “spurning the bar”. Stay in our Stratford-Upon-Avon hotel to get your adrenaline pumping Medieval style.
