Why Hit the E-Grand Prix on Your London Holiday?

A new FIA single-seater championship and a ground-breaking step for the sport (being the world’s first fully-electric racing series) the Formula E bandwagon is coming to London this summer. And it looks like there’ll be celebs aplenty about too.

So if you fancy being a part of motorsport history, why not take a look at our handy guide and book a room in a London Travelodge today to be at the Battersea Park race.

Picture the glory: a race set in lush space a stroll away from the shops and cafe culture of Chelsea, nearby pub gardens in sunshine, and the bustle of Theatreland just a bus ride away. This is your perfect excuse to come to the capital.

1. The lowdown

With media calls to ditch fossil fuels and the rising need to be more ‘green’, you could argue that motorsport doesn’t fit the current agenda, but that’s exactly why there’s growing support behind Formula E.

Kicking off back in September last year in Beijing and running until June of 2015, the climax of this brand new series will be in south London’s Battersea, as 10 teams of two drivers each battle it out for supremacy.

This really is a vision of the future, with the environmentally-conscious side of the sport mixed with the excitement of an F1 race, meaning fans both young and old will get a kick from the battle in Battersea Park.

2. The cars

The car of choice for these green speed demons is the Spark-Renault SRT_01E, a zero-emission car that pushes the boundaries of what everyone thought was possible in electric motorsport.

In fact, in the second season of the championship, teams will even be able to showcase their own developments in technology and, therefore, may make strides in electric motoring for everyone – not just racing drivers!

3. The big race

Saturday 27th June sees all 10 teams descend on Battersea Park as the series enters ‘squeaky bum time’, when one driver will be crowned the first Formula E World Champion.

With celebrity backers such as Richard Branson and Leonardo Di Caprio, the great and good are sure to descend on this picturesque part of the capital, so what are you waiting for?

Join the electric revolution and start planning your weekend today by booking a room in our London Travelodge.
