Summer is on its way, which means festival season is nearly upon us. Britain is known for its fantastic festivals including Glastonbury and Reading but there are also some great festivals in the capital itself. Those of you who love great music but want to avoid camping will love our list of this summer’s best. Staying in a Travelodge will feel far more comfortable than getting muddy, tired and cold in a field and you can even get a much-needed shower too.
1. Field Day
Field Day is an up and coming London festival with an incredible line up. This year is the first year it will be running for a whole weekend and Victoria Park will be jam packed with the coolest of the cool and some of the best musicians you could wish for. On the 7th and 8th of June, bands like The Horrors, Warpaint and The Wytches will take to the stage as well as Blood Orange, Sky Ferreira and Jamie XX. Headlining on the 7th, Metronomy guarantee to get the beat on and the 8th will see the legends that are The Pixies take to the stage. Originally formed in 1986, the band has just released a new album and recently smashed it at Coachella.
Food lovers will not be able to ignore the great edible feasts that are awaiting. Catering is provided by the tasty Venn Street Market and Street Feast who promise to bring in some of the best street food in London. The London Brewers Market will also be on site, providing you with the best of artisan beers from local breweries.
Tickets start at just £38.50 which is a monumental bargain to catch The Pixies only UK show of 2014.
Slightly later in the summer, from July the 18th to the 19th, Lovebox will hit Victoria Park with one of the biggest parties of the year. The line up shows an exciting mix of DJ’s, electronic artists and bands as well as crazy extras like Voga ( a mix between Voguing and Yoga), Breaking Convention and Darius Magic. Musical highlights include M.I.A, Chase & Status, Katy B, Annie Mac and Crystal Fighters.
The shoppers amongst you will easily find ways to part with your cash in a pop up shop by The Secret Emporium, who will be drawing together the cream of the crop from the best young British designers and if you feel in need of a new do, Blue Tit London will be there to sort out your festival hair and Miss Lippy Beauty will be on site to sort out your very own war paint.
Tickets start at £50 for one day. A very good deal.
Wireless has a London and Birmingham Festival both running from the 4th to the 6th of July with the same line up. Held in Finsbury Park the festival is a fantastic showcase of hip hop and R&B. The line up is unbeatable with performances by Kanye West, Pharell Williams, Tinie Tempah and Basement Jaxx just on the Friday. The Saturday event is currently sold out but weekend tickets are still available and getting your hand on a ticket to see Drake and Rudimental would be like hitting gold. The Sunday line up is just as exciting, with performances by Bruno Mars, Outcast, Ellie Goulding and Robin Thicke.
The rules are slightly looser at Wireless, as you are allowed to take your own food and soft drinks in to the arena meaning you don’t have to put up with festival prices.
The tickets start at £71.50 for one day or £210 for three. VIP tickets are also available.
