Uniting upcoming artists with those who’ve been in the game for years, it showcases the link between creativity and technology, keeping its finger firmly on the pulse of the electronic music scene. With big names such as Rudimental, Massive Attack and many more, if you’re a fan of electronic music Sonar is a must visit.

Primavera Sound

This one is a real mix of music genres and ideal for those who have a broad taste in music. From pop and hip hop, indie and jazz to metal and folk, you’re guaranteed to find something that’s right up your street at Primavera Sound. With a focus on independent music and acting as a showcase for emerging acts, this festival contains some real gems, both Spanish and international. Barcelona Festival of Song

Fans of classical music will love the Barcelona Festival of Song. Celebrating Latin American and Iberian vocal repertoire, it brings together the best singers from around the world and you’ll hear singers in Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan. This year it’s the 10th Anniversary of the festival and not only is it showcasing new acts, but it’s also bringing back favourite singers from previous years too. Taking place between the 26th of June and the 5th of July this year, it’s a great festival to visit if you prefer a little sophistication in your music scene.

Sports fans should make sure you combine your festival trip with a visit to Barcelona FC’s stadium, home to some pretty impressive trophies from their glory days and, of course, the 1992 Olympic stadium. If you want to continue the musical theme of your trip, make sure you include a visit to one of the city’s many music bars or perhaps take in a flamenco show – or even take a salsa class and enjoy a bit of Latin rhythm yourself!
