North London: Camden Pub Crawl

Camden is one of the coolest areas in London and is famous for its great British pubs. Going on a pub crawl is a perfect way to spend an evening if you’re staying in a North London Travelodge. Many companies organise pub crawl tours but you can easily embark on your own drinking adventure. Here are the pubs that should definitely be on your list:

1. The Dublin Castle

The Dublin Castle is a real gem. It doesn’t look much from the outside but this pub is a great music venue that hosts some of the best up and coming bands. Blur and Madness have both been through these legendary doors. The Dublin Castle offers cheap drinks before 6pm, so starting early is advisable.

2. The Hawley Arms

Situated just beside Camden Lock, this infamous pub has recovered marvellously after the recent fire that ripped through this part of town. Made incredibly popular by regulars such as the late Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty, the huge Victorian Pub is incredibly cool and perfect for some hipster watching. Even so, The Hawley Arms remains quite traditional at heart and despite the new refurbishment, the pub is still reminiscent of the classic old local.

3. Our Black Heart

Situated right in the middle of Camden but a bit off the beaten track, Our Black Heart oozes traditional rock ‘n’ roll charm. The décor is dark and deadly, featuring many a skull, interesting art work and a large neon cross. Our Black Heart is a good place to let some of the alcohol soak up, as it regularly hosts pop-up kitchens with different chefs each month. Examples include the smoke ‘n’ roll menu, which consists of delectable barbecued meats, sides and sauces. For a drink that’s a little different try the locally brewed Camden Hells Lager. Look out for good quality live music too.

4. The Lock Tavern

The Lock Tavern is a spruced up pub with a large garden, perfect for spending summer evenings. Like many Camden venues The Lock Tavern is now a popular DJ and music venue and holds parties frequently. This pub, like many, gets exceedingly busy, especially at weekends. In the past, bands such as The Arctic Monkeys and Adele have performed here.

5. The World’s End

The World’s End is a perfect destination to finish your pub crawl. Situated next to Underworld, which is a legendary underground club at the top of the alternative music scene, The World’s End attracts Londoners from all backgrounds. Famous patrons include and go back as far as Charles Dickens, making the pub a truly historic drinking spot. The large venue is perfect for a last drink or as a second to last stop, before visiting Underworld and partying to the early hours. If you’re hungry after your adventures, there are a variety of late night food places near at hand, including kebabs, pizza and chinese takeaway.
