October Sports Round Up – 4 Of The Best Sporting Events

The Premier League is up and running, the cricket is finished (till the winter Ashes in Australia) and Britain’s fantastic summer of sport is becoming merely a fond memory for the wistful sports fans among us.

But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t plenty of sporting events to keep us all going into the month of October!

There’s the small matter of Roy Hodgson’s England qualifying for the World Cup in Brazil, the Rugby League World Cup on these very shores, an invasion from the NFL and the World Squash Championships, plus much, much more to give us our sport fix throughout the month.

So without further ado, here are four of the biggest and best sporting events to look forward to in October:

England v Montenegro – October 11th – Wembley

Need a manicure but can’t afford it? Fancy 90-plus minutes of sitting on the edge of your seat? Want to roar the Three Lions onto victory and into a place at the 2014 World Cup? Then this is the game for you.

England have done the hard part but need to avoid any mistakes to book a place in Brazil, and that final sprint finish starts against Montenegro at Wembley. After a solid if unspectacular result against Ukraine, England fans will be wanting three points against a Montenegro side that boasts a number of top European players.

If you don’t fancy a nervy trip up to the capital then why not stay at one of our London hotels? Stay more central and see the sights or book in at our Wembley Travelodge for an easy trip to and from the game. Hopefully you’ll have something to celebrate!

The Rugby League World Cup – October 26th to November 30th

Pure brute force will be on show as favourites Australia come to lift the Rugby League World Cup. England however, will be hoping that home advantage plays into their hands and their opening game at the Millennium Stadium on October 26th against Australia will be an intriguing opener to what will be a fantastic tournament.

Stay in one of our Cardiff hotels to see all the action and enjoy a night out with opposition fans as England bid to be a part of the Final at Old Trafford in November.

NFL International Series – October 27th – Wembley

American Football is fast becoming one of Britain’s most popular imports and this all comes to a head in October as defending NFC champions the San Francisco 49ers clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars at the home of (the other) football – Wembley.

Expect plenty of razzmatazz, some fantastic American football and an army of fans out in full force as a sold-out Wembley welcomes these two giants of the game.

World Squash Championships – October 28th to November 3rd

Head to Manchester to see the top names in squash battle it out for supremacy. England boast four players in the top 13 in the world so that, coupled with home advantage, could mean we see a victory from one of our home-grown talents.

Check out one of our Manchester hotels to make a weekend of it and cheer your favourite players on to World Squash Championship glory!
