Remembrance Day Events this November

As we gather to remember the men and women that gave their lives in two World Wars and more recent conflicts, there are plenty of events across the UK where we can pay tribute to these brave defenders of our values.

Remembrance Sunday falls on the second Sunday of November, which will be the 10th of November this year. The national silence takes place at 11am on the 11th of November.

Of course, there are plenty of local services wherever you are in the country, but a number of larger special events will also be taking place around the UK, with many events taking place in London.

Here are some of the most memorable ways to experience Remembrance Day and pay your respects to those who gave so much.

Cenotaph Parade in Whitehall

Organised every year by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, this is often the event you will see on television and in the news. Including a March with The Royal British Legion, a spine-tingling service and plenty of politicians, sportsmen and women and other famous faces, this is the biggest Remembrance Day service in the UK.

If you want to see it for yourself, why not book a room in one of our London hotels and stay for the weekend?

Remembrance Ceremony at the Royal Air Force Museum

Set in front of the Museum’s majestic Lancaster Bomber, this simple ceremony, which is open to the public, is a beautiful way to remember the Fallen.

Consisting of a two minutes’ silence, the sounding of the Last Post and the Reveille and a short dedication, there is no better way to experience Remembrance Day this November. Check out our hotels in London for somewhere to stay near the Museum.

‘Silence in the Square’ in Trafalgar Square

If you can’t make any Sunday services then this service in Trafalgar Square is for you. On Monday 11th November, Trafalgar Square will be transformed into a wonderful remembrance of the Fallen with entertainment up until 11am when a 2-minute silence will then be followed by the chance to scatter poppy petals in the fountains as a breathtaking symbol.

If you’re hoping to attend a number of services and perhaps see some other sights during your trip then our London hotels offer the perfect place to relax after a very emotional day.

The Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey

In homage to all the brave men and women who have served in the Armed Forces since World War I, the Field of Remembrance will be officially opened on 7th November and will be open to the public from noon that day until 17th November.

Remembrance Sunday Service, Centenary Square, Birmingham

Of course there are plenty of services elsewhere in the country, one of which is taking place in Birmingham’s Centenary Square. Including an army band, the laying of wreaths, a lovely service and a two minutes’ silence, it’s sure to be an emotional affair.
