Ready to start 2015 with fun, fun, fun?
Luckily, there’s plenty to do this January to get you off that sofa and starting the New Year as you mean to go on. Here are four of the best, from sport to music.
1. Pedal Power, Museum of Science & Industry, Manchester, open till 1 March 2015
A celebration of track cycling from the early bone shakers to today’s sleek, light, gold medal-winning machines. If you’re happier on two wheels than two legs, this is the exhibition for you.
Explore a miniature recreation of the Manchester Velodrome, learn what makes an Olympic champion and pit yourself against the best on a time trial bike.
Base yourself in a Manchester Travelodge so you can take in the bars of the North Quarter, the city centre shops and family-friendly museums.
2. Die Antwoord, The Institute, Birmingham, Thursday 15 January 2015
If you’re looking for something a bit different to blow away the January cobwebs then South African rap-rave group Die Antwoord is a good start. They’re set to bring down the house in Birmingham on the 15th.
Influenced by the zef movement and photographer Roger Ballen, Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek certainly aren’t your average headliners, but they put on a show like few others can.
Our Birmingham Travelodge is the perfect place to get a good night’s sleep after a chaotic set from these giants of the South African Hip Hop scene.
3. The London Art Fair, Business Design Centre, 21-25 January 2015
The event that launches the art world’s calendar, this will be the 27th edition of the London Art Fair.
Boasting British art from the early 20th century right through to the present day, the Fair is all about the culture (and the people watching). Thursday Late is the perfect night to drop in, as the Fair’s open till 9pm and you’ll have extra time to catch film screenings and art talks. Afterwards, you’re in the sweet spot for the bars and restaurants of Islington, so jump right in.
While you’re at it, you should definitely stay in a London Travelodge to take advantage of the January sales in the capital.
4. Liverpool v West Ham, Anfield, 31 January 2015
Two teams whose reversed fortunes have been the talk of the Beautiful Game this season. And they face off at the cathedral of football that is Anfield. Be there!
Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool side have struggled after going oh-so-close last season, while Big Sam has shocked everyone at Upton Park, rocketing the Hammers back up the table.
This is sure to be a real cracker of a game to finish off January in style, so make sure you book your Liverpool Travelodge right now. It’s just not the same on telly.
