If you want your New Year trip to be all about atmosphere then you certainly won’t get a better one than at this world-famous street party.

Take to the streets as the whole of central Edinburgh is cordoned off and screens erected to help you count down to the big moment. Music, food and drinks are all on hand and at midnight you can celebrate under the glow of the spectacular fireworks which light up the sky above the iconic castle. Magic.

4. The Victoria’s Prohibition Party, Birmingham
Spend a decadent New Year ’s Eve at this Prohibition-era speakeasy.
