The most anticipated events of 2019

You’ve made your resolutions, you’ve packed away the Christmas decs- it’s the perfect time for a fresh start and this year promises to be a big one for the UK and the world over. Check out our list of the most anticipated events of 2019.

A new royal baby

We saw their lavish wedding back in May last year, but in Spring 2019 Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to welcome their first child. And it won’t just be the UK awaiting their arrival, many countries around the world will be preparing to celebrate the newborn and of course placing their bets on the gender and the name of the baby.

World Cup fever

After the surprising summer success of their male counterparts, it’s the turn of the England women’s football team as they head to France this summer for the Women’s World Cup due to kick off in June. The first match for the Lionesses will be against arch-rivals Scotland on the 9th June.

The Cricket World Cup in London in May, and the Rugby World Cup in Japan are also hotly anticipated sporting events this year. The Cricket World Cup will be held in England and Wales, with matches taking place across 10 venues up and down the UK. The opening match and the final will both be held at the iconic Lord’s ground in London.

Festival season

It may seem a world away now, but soon enough the days will get lighter and summer will arrive, which of course means festival season will soon be upon us. All the big name events are set to fill their stages again this year with Reading and Leeds already naming some of their standout acts including Foo Fighters, The 1975 and Bastille. Glastonbury announced in November last year that Kylie Minogue and Stormzy will be playing in June, while Creamfields have Deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia set to play. Other festivals such as Isle of Wight and Bestival have kept their cards close to their chest, so it’s safe to say if you’re a festival lover, keep your eyes peeled over the next few months.

A year of great music

It’s the most hotly anticipated event of 2019- and they’re the biggest girl group in the world. Tickets for the Spice Girls tour sold out in mere minutes as Spice Fever hit a high in 2018 following their reunion announcement. From the end of May, the pop group will be touring up and down the country and needless to say it will be a 2019 highlight, not to mention a social media sensation. While the UK will give a massive welcome back to one pop icon, this year will see a farewell tour from another- Sir Elton John. Many saw him in the John Lewis advert at Christmas with his famous track Your Song taking viewers back through his decades long music career. Now in 2019, true Elton fans will be able to celebrate with the man himself.

Great film and TV

2019 will also see huge TV comebacks as well as some fantastic films. Get ready for a dazzling Disney trio with live action renditions of Aladdin, Dumbo and Lion King. As if that wasn’t enough, Marvel series fans will see the Avengers return with ‘Avengers: End Game’ and Captain Marvel. The small screen will also see some big favourites make their return such as the 3rd season of The Crown and Stranger Things, as well as the 8th and final season of Game of Thrones set to start in April.
