Known for its amazing nightlife and Geordie charm, there’s always somewhere new to eat, a new shop to visit, or something new to discover. Why not book your stay in Travelodge Newcastle and explore the Toon for yourself! Travelodge Newcastle is located at the beautiful and scenic Quayside, a stone throw away from the iconic Tyne Bridge. Here’s what you can get up to during your stay:

Culture
The Baltic, which is five minutes walk from Travelodge Newcastle, is a centre for contemporary art. It’s free and opens daily. Go to the viewing box on the fifth floor where you’ll get the most beautiful views of the Quayside. I also recommend visiting the gift shop if you like quirky home ware and products. The Sage, conveniently next to the Baltic, is a spectacular building, check out their event schedule to see what’s on.

Family Fun
Boutique bowling alley, Lane7, is a recent addition to this city’s family fun scene and is a place where you can bowl, play pool or ping pong, sing Karaoke and for a limited time only, play mini golf! Booking in advance is required. For an educational day out, visit the Life Science Centre next to the train station. Your tickets will include access to the planetarium, science centre, current exhibitions and the 4D motion ride. The kids will love it!

Food
Breakfast: Quay Ingredient is a hidden little gem. A small independent coffee shop with a fantastic breakfast menu – a great way to start your day.

Lunch: Chances are, you’ll have made your way to the retail area of Newcastle by mid-day! Whilst you’re in the city centre, grab lunch at Café 21 in Fenwick, or at Olive & Bean, a lovely delicatessen and sandwich bar on Grey Street. I like to grab a quick lunch so my new favourite place is Nudo Sushi Box on Northumberland Street.

Tea Rooms: Like most cities, you’re never far from the big coffee chains but for something truly special, I highly recommend The Great British Cupcakery on Queen Street, underneath the Tyne Bridge. This is where you’ll find the tastiest cakes in the whole of the northeast! This cupcake parlour is in a gorgeous setting, and it’s beautifully decorated so you can sit and relax over a great cup of tea and delicious homemade cakes.

Dinner: For the perfect pub-grub, visit The Forth on Pink Lane. If you love Italian food, Sabatini is a firm favourite with locals. Newcastle’s Chinatown offers an extensive variety; you’ll be spoilt for choice. Round the corner from that is The Gate, a leisure complex where there truly is something for everyone.

Retail Therapy
Intu Eldon Square is a huge in-city shopping centre with over 150 shops and three department stores (John Lewis, Debenhams and Fenwick) under one roof! I love to spend time on the ground floor of Fenwick, and if you’re a fan of beauty products then you’ll love it too. Heading out of the main exit at Fenwicks will lead you to Northumberland Street where you’ll find the likes of Primark, H&M and Marks & Spencer. For premium brands, go round the corner to Monument for shops such as The White Company, Hugo Boss, Kiehl’s, Reiss, and Jack Wills. For more shopping, hop on the bus or the metro and head towards Intu Metrocentre Gateshead, Europe’s largest indoor shopping and leisure centre.

Nightlife
The Geordies know how to party and Newcastle is one of the UK’s top destination for a night out with amazing clubs such as TupTup Palace, Riverside, Digital and TigerTiger! I recommend starting the night at Revolution (opposite the train station) for delicious cocktails. Work your way up Collingwood Road where you’ll find the most stylish bars such as Florita’s, Madame Koo and Perdu, Popolo.

For more information about Newcastle take a look at our Get Up & Go Guide

Visiting Newcastle offers a different experience every time for me.
