Then, it’s not just a present for him – it’s a sneaky excuse for a mini break for you too. But where should you go? There are so many places in the UK that make a great weekend destination, but here are a few suggestions of great Father’s Day spots:

For the outdoorsy Dad:

There’s nowhere more suited to the rugged, action-man of a father than Scotland. Book a fishing trip or a plan to do some hiking and you’ll have a wonderful time out in the fresh air. Stay in our Fort William hotel, which is a short drive from Ben Nevis for the real climbers, and the Isle of Skye for those looking for some spectacular scenery. Once you’ve worn yourselves out, stop in for a pint at The Grog & Gruel in Fort William, which is about as good as classic Scottish pubs come.

For the cultured Dad:

There are few cities in the UK as celebrated for their culture as Oxford, and as the warmer weather arrives, it’s a great place to spend a few days, so book your room in our Oxford hotel early. You can take your father punting on the river, or get tickets to see a play at the Oxford Playhouse. Don’t miss the chance to wander round the Ashmolean, which is the world’s first university museum, and once you’ve soaked up as much history as you can absorb, the Old Parsonage Hotel does an excellent afternoon tea.

For the sports fan Dad:

Perhaps he’s a footy fanatic, or maybe rugby’s his thing. But whatever sport he’s nutty about, he’ll be as happy as you’ve seen him if you take him to the town of his team. Why not book a tour of Old Trafford and get a behind the scenes look at the home of one of the world’s most famous teams? Stay in one of our Manchester hotels, and then you can fill the rest of the weekend with all that the city has to offer. If you haven’t had enough of football, you can visit the Manchester United Museum, or if you’re looking for something a bit different, plan to stop off at the award-winning Imperial War Museum.

For the foodie Dad:

Ludlow has long been regarded one of the most culinary towns in the UK, so if you’ve got a foodie father, book a room in our Ludlow hotel for the weekend. The town was once the only one in the UK to have three Michelin-starred restaurants, and its September food festival is legendary. The farmer’s market is fantastic, and the relatively new town brewery is worth a visit. With three traditional butchers, four bakers, and a variety of specialist food shops, you’ll could spend days thinking about nothing but what you want to eat next. Just make sure you book a table at Le Becasse, Mr Underhill’s, or The French Pantry, (or better all three!) a long way in advance.

What better way to celebrate Father’s day than to treat your old man to a little trip and spend some quality time together?
