For over 30 years, we’ve been providing everyone with unbeatable value in travel. Whilst that hasn’t changed, the speed at which we’re growing certainly has. Today we’re one of the UK’s largest and fastest growing hotel chains, with over 500 hotels and 38,000 rooms. And over the last couple of years, we’ve invested millions in the business, helping transform the way people see us.

The future

As a brand, we’re well established in the hearts and minds of our customers, but we’ve never sat back and thought ‘job done’. That’s because the next customer and the next Travelodge experience is always the most important. So we’re firmly looking ahead with the ambition to become the favourite hotel for value. With many new hotels already planned for the next year, and the potential spotted for at least 250 more, we’re well on the way to making Travelodge Britain’s favourite hotel for value.

1985

Travelodge is born. The first budget hotel in the UK - opened by Trusthouse Forte - is rebranded.

1990

Just five years in, and we open our 100th hotel, at Norwich Cringleford.

1995

Granada buy Trusthouse Forte. The lodges from both companies are merged.

2000

As the new millennium arrives, we open our 200th hotel. This one at Liverpool Street, London.

2004

Something of a milestone as we launch the revolutionary 'book early for the best rate' pricing structure. We invest £½ bn in a new growth programme too.

2013

The Travelodge Dreamer™ arrives. The luxury high-end king size bed plays its role in unveiling our new room design and helps kick off a nationwide makeover of our hotels.

2015

Exciting news as we announce we're the fastest growing major UK hotel brand. And reveal plans to open more than 250 new hotels in the years ahead.

Corporate social responsibility

When it comes to delivering great value, we believe it should go beyond our customers. Which is why you’ll find us actively supporting job creation by working with JobCentre Plus to help the long-term unemployed. Then there’s the work we do with charities. In 2011 we became the first hotel brand to join Pennies - the pioneering electronic donation box – while in 2016 we asked our people which charity they’d like to support. So we've started raising money for British Heart Foundation. We have an eye firmly on the environment too. Low energy lighting, aerated showers and super-insulated walls are just some ways we’re cutting our carbon footprint through our Green Programme.

While it’s a challenge we thrive on, it’s also why our values are so important to us.
