The job in a nutshell


As IT Infrastructure Project Manager in our IT operations team, you will manage a portfolio of IT projects focused on infrastructure transformation and service improvement in the areas of networks and telephony, hosting and server infrastructure, infrastructure applications, end user computing and information security. This is the ideal role for someone with a unique mix of strong technical, organisational and stakeholder management skills who thrives on delivering technology improvements.

What you’ll be doing


  • Develop, own and manage an infrastructure initiative plan and associated project portfolio keeping a balance of stakeholder demands with strategic principles and objectives.

  • Prioritise and manage several projects at a time within the parameters of time, cost, scope, risk, quality and benefits.

  • Quantify and agree the success, acceptance and quality criteria for project deliverables, ensuring that outcomes meet agreed business requirements.

  • Produce and maintain detailed project documentation including business cases, delivery plans and budgets.

  • Define resource requirements and work with internal stakeholders and third party suppliers to agree priorities and ensure suitable resource allocation.

  • Ensure all projects deliverables are effectively transitioned into service operation, working closely with internal teams and third party service providers to ensure all requirements are met.

  • Create and deliver regular stakeholder communications to demonstrate progress against plans, set expectations, gain/maintain buy-in and obtain feedback.


Budget & Staff Management Accountabilities

Management of a project CAPEX budgets of up to £1m.

Matrix management of internal and external resources.


What we’ll expect from you


To succeed in the role, you’ll be a seasoned senior infrastructure project manager with significant experience of delivering both strategic and tactical technical projects in complex, fast paced, customer focused environments.


You’ll be a tenacious self starter who is comfortable working at pace and under pressure and with delivery oriented targets where planning, stakeholder management and communications are critical.


You’ll have a passion for project delivery and demonstrate strong technical understanding, with a natural ability to understand detail and the bigger picture.


The following attributes and skills are essential for this role:

  • Extensive experience as an infrastructure project manager in customer centric, multi-site businesses with a strong reliance on high performing infrastructure.

  • Significant experience of delivering IT projects in the areas of network and telephony (WAN, LAN, Wifi, Voice), hosting and server infrastructure, infrastructure applications (file, print, UC, MDM) and EUC (desktops/laptops, mobile/tablets, peripherals).

  • An excellent understanding of current infrastructure technology trends and architecture principles.

  • Previous experience of public cloud project delivery and on-premise migrations.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with an inherent ability to influence and motivate others to achieve required outcomes.

  • Diligent planning and analysis skills with an ability to spot and work through links and dependencies.

  • A strong understanding and appreciation of good financial management and project governance.

  • Professional presentation and documentation skills with a commitment to quality and keen eye for detail.

  • A good working knowledge and demonstrable experience of best practice waterfall (PRINCE2) delivery methodologies.

  • A practical understanding of ITSM best practice (ITIL).
