Job Description

The job in a nutshell 

You’ll ensure that Travelodge conducts its operations in a safe and effective manner, within the framework of company policies, legislative requirements and any other relevant standards to which the business subscribes. You’ll promote a positive risk management culture within Travelodge and the ownership of risk by teams in all areas of the business operation through providing information and support on an advisory basis.

This role is home based with travel covering our Southern region. Candidates will be expected to be located within the Southern region.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support District and Hotel Managers on an advisory basis on health & safety and related matters including food safety, security, environment, incident/crisis management, and disabled accessibility issues.

  • Support District and Hotel Managers in liaison with enforcement authorities, including Environmental Health Officers, HSE Personnel, Trading Standards, Environment Agency Officers and Fire Safety Officers.

  • Support development and delivery of internal health and safety, fire safety and food safety performance monitoring of hotel managers and district managers. Write clear reports with constructive actions & feedback on findings from every visit.

  • Provide regular Regional / District specific health and safety performance data and trend analysis.

  • The Regional Health & Safety Advisors will visit any hotel that fails its Health & Safety Audit within 10 working days to support and coach the hotel team with the corrective action plan and determine if the hotel presents any on-going risk to the business.

  • Carrying out accident/incident investigations for all RIDDOR reportable accidents and centrally instructed incidents; Ensure the company’s obligations under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations are met, investigate insurance claims where required.

  • Design, facilitate and deliver health & safety related training programmes for delivery at all levels throughout the organisation.

  • Facilitate sharing of best practice, representing the Health & Safety Team at regional and District meetings.

  • Ensure that within their region, no new (or newly acquired) hotel opens without the appropriate advice and support, including the completion of a full opening health and safety review, full fire risk assessment checked, risk assessment of any blue flag issues and the necessary corrective actions being put in place;  follow up check, on-site training and support.

  • Ensure that any unsafe act, condition or situation which in your judgement could compromise the business is immediately escalated to the Head of Health and Safety.

  • Provide monthly health & safety performance reports at the team meeting.

  • Actively promote a positive risk management culture within the business.

  • Act with integrity and full completion of necessary legal documentation.

  • Participate in rota for emergency out of hours and weekend calls.

  • Undertake a range of project work to enhance and review the Working Safe system and support material. Support the implementation and compliance of any new changes to the Working Safe System

What we expect from you

You’ll have good overall technical knowledge of health & safety, food safety and fire safety related matters. The ideal candidate will have the ability to influence and persuade people at all levels within the organisation both informally and within the meeting and training environments. You’ll have the ability to project a professional positive presence and an appropriate level of credibility. As well as this we’re looking for:

  • Flexibility to travel, principally with the region, full driving license.

  • Effective time management skills, able to work within tight time frames with ability to plan and prioritise, think clearly, strategically and succinctly.

  • Strong reporting and written skills maintaining accurate documentation & IT skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent team player, collaborating effectively, share best practice as part of a progressive fast paced management team with ability to effectively work alone.

  • Enthusiasm with a solution focused attitude.


  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent. Candidates with exceptional relevant knowledge and experience may be considered but should be prepared to work towards obtaining a formal qualification.

  • Eager to undertake personal development e.g. knowledge of health and safety, food safety, fire safety, security, DDA, DPA and environmental management.

  • Effective at establishing a good H&S culture within a budget brand.
