The job in a nutshell

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will be an experienced technical resource with strong Network, Server and Cloud computing expertise.

You will have in-depth and significant experience in an Infrastructure support & design role and be able to prioritise and own support workloads through to resolution.

Public cloud experience is essential (AWS and/or Azure- Azure preferred). You will demonstrable experience in designing and supporting these platforms.

This role is heavily focused on architecture, design and project work with some BAU support.

You will be able to deputise for the IT Infrastructure Manager if/when needed and provide mentoring/support to junior team members.

 

The Infrastructure team ensure the delivery of a reliable, stable and secure IT Infrastructure to all Travelodge Office and Hotel users incorporating:

 

  • Hotel and Head Office (Support Centre) end user devices (laptops, desktops, mobiles and tablets) and server provision, management and support
  • Travelodge Data and Voice Networks (LAN / WAN / VPN/ VoIP )
  • PCI compliance, Data Security and Disaster Recovery

 

The role requires a mix of hands on technical skills as well as strong personnel and customer management skills.

What you’ll be doing

 

  • Providing an awesome, responsive and friendly service at all times
  • Guiding and troubleshooting of hardware and software related issues if needed
  • Resolving technical problems, using a methodological & detailed approach to problem solving
  • Enabling, training and promoting our colleagues on technology systems
  • Delivering excellent service to our internal customers
  • Performing daily system checks on a rota basis
  • Documenting technical solutions (current and new), support processes and guidelines
  • Supporting the provision and maintenance of internally hosted systems
  • Coordination of third party suppliers who maintain, supply and support the Infrastructure estate (network, server and end-user compute)
  • Managing incidents and outages through to resolution and implementation of corrective maintenance
  • Ensuring compliance following industry standards as part of PCI and GDPR
  • Working on projects to improve services and systems
  • Designing solutions to meet requirements of the business
  • Helping to ensure maintenance of the IS status quo to achieve stability of the organisations day-to-day processes and activities
  • Ensuring high levels of service and system reliability through patching, upgrade management and pro-active administrative tasks
  • Provide swift application of operational skills to diagnose and resolve any operational failures that occur
  • Monitoring specific system events, respond as required, and ensure that incidents are created as appropriate
  • Participate in change management activities such as implementing changes and participating in change reviews
  • Work with the broader IT team and business to engineer appropriate levels of capacity, availability, security and continuity for all technical components
  • Adhere to all service management processes and provide feedback / improvement ideas
  • Identification and deployment of the appropriate tools to efficiently monitor the critical systems infrastructure
  • Management and provision of IT security and controls
  • Management of all backup and restore processes
  • Maintenance and testing of disaster recovery plans

To succeed in the role, you’ll be passionate about Infrastructure and be able to manage the incident management queue as well as help define ways to improve the Infrastructure services we provide to the business.

  • Strong experience of support in the following:
  • Data networks- LAN, WAN (including MPLS), Firewalls, IPSec VPN tunnels
  • Voice networks- VoIP, TDM, PSTN lines
  • Data centre / Comms room environments
  • Servers (Windows 2008 onwards)
  • Active Directory
  • Printers/MFDs including ‘follow me’ printing solutions
  • Desktop management / support (Windows 7 and above)
  • Google G Suite Enterprise
  • Chromebox for Meetings
  • Airwatch Cloud MDM
  • Aerohive Wi-Fi technologies
  • Orion/Solarwinds
  • Splunk
  • AWS and/or Azure
  • ITIL v3 certified (at least)
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • Flexible approach to working – prepared to work out of normal hours when required
  • Self-motivated and multi-tasker
