Job Description

The job in a nutshell 

Based in our Hotel Support Centre in Thame, this role primarily supports the appraisal of major projects and the development of the Company’s 3-5 year plans.  The key areas of work are as follows:

Supporting the development team in delivering the room growth assumptions included in the business plan. A key part of the role is supporting the process for new opportunities including financial modelling and initial assessment to helping prepare papers to board for approval.  Also providing financial reports and analysis to the development function to assist in identifying key targets and assessing past performance.

The role will also involve various other ad hoc project appraisal and commercial analysis, including working with IT to undertake cost/benefit analysis of projects for submission to the IT investment Board.

Support the preparation of the companies various planning cycles, including short term forecasts and 3 year plan.  This will require some business partnering across various departments including revenue, sales, digital and other areas of finance.  

In addition the role will also provide ad hoc analytical support across the business to better understand business drivers and optimise performance.

What you’ll be doing 

  • Production and maintenance of investment model used to forecast and appraise project performance of prospective new hotels;

  • Preparation of financial appraisal and detailed background paper for proposed new hotel schemes for presentation to the board for approval;

  • Support the Travelodge team of internal and external development agents in the provision of financial analysis and market performance used to prioritise development targets and determine the financial viability of proposed deals;

  • Support the development pipeline reporting on a monthly basis to update the business on scheme openings and pipeline development;

  • Support preparation of post completion performance reviews of new openings and compile summary reports for the Board.

  • Support in the development of a new investment model

  • Support in the production and development of the 3-5 year forecast model

  • Business partner with internal/external Development Managers providing support and challenge on investment decisions

  • Responsible for writing acquisition papers providing financial appraisals for review at the Investment Board

  • Responsible for all reporting on Travelodge pipeline which includes being Finance representative at the monthly Crowbar meeting (attended by Managing Director for Property and Development Director) and being the point of contact for all Property Database queries

  • Manage capex approval process for new openings

  • Support in the production of post completion review and development strategy document for Main Board

  • Support in the bi-annual updates of the Investment Model

  • Ad-hoc analysis for both the FP&A and Property team as required

What we’ll expect from you

The successful candidate will be a driven self-starter who has the ability to work across all levels of the business effectively. You’ll have the ability to work in a fast paced environment taking control of your own workload and managing competing priorities, with tasks arising from a variety of sources with frequent tight deadlines. The role forms part of a team of 3.  Therefore it’s essential that the team can work together to ensure that all work is delivered on time, to a high standard and meets the requirements of the business. As well as this you’ll have: 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal with ability to communicate financial terms effectively to non-finance staff;

  • High level of competence in Microsoft Excel with experience of forecasts modelling is essential

  • ACA/CIMA/ACCA qualified or working towards is preferable


  • Experience using Cognos, SQL, Qlikview or similar system advantageous.
