The company has embarked on a strategy to build a new Travelodge that offers more choice and will become Britain’s favourite hotel for value. To support this, the company has invested £100 million modernising its UK hotels with a new contemporary look. It is also the UK’s first budget hotel chain to launch a premium economy room called the SuperRoom and a budget chic hotel concept called Travelodge Plus.


The job in a nutshell


Travelodge’s PR department is recruiting for an experienced Press Officer.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced PR professional who is looking to broaden their experience within a household brand and a very proactive press office – that is highly regarded within the media arena. This role offers a great opportunity to work across all media platforms and obtain a wealth of experience in PR.


What you’ll be doing:


The Press Officer will work closely with the PR manager to deliver the annual new hotel openings PR programme.  Over the next five years, the company expects to open around 100 hotels around the UK which equates to around 20 per year.  Each hotel opening will be supported with an event and a comprehensive media relations programme. Working with the PR manager you will be required to generate a high level of awareness for each hotel opening via media relations across: broadcast, print and digital channels.


The role also involves supporting the Consumer PR Manger - managing the annual travel PR programme which includes creating a bespoke room offer calendar to help drive traffic to the Travelodge website and generate room bookings – across national, regional and consumer travel /  consumer money saving pages and sites. As part of this programme you will also be responsible for managing the annual hotels review programme – which involves securing hotel room reviews with target media to help showcase the Travelodge brand has changed.


In addition you will also be required to support consumer and corporate sell-in’s and big business campaigns.

You need to have proven media relations experience, ideally gained within a large, consumer business or a PR agency.  You also need to be an exceptional communicator and be confident in engaging both with internal stakeholders and media contacts.


What you’ll be doing:


  Work with the PR Manager to develop a comprehensive PR activity programme to support every new Travelodge hotel opening. This involves creating a bespoke creative event to officially mark the opening of the hotel.

  Work with consumer PR Manager to create and implement an annual travel PR programme across national, regional and consumer press to help communicate Travelodge has changed for the better. Create monthly bespoke room offers to help drive traffic to Travelodge website and manage annual room review programme.

  Support corporate and consumer sell-ins.

  Support the Press Office department  

  Build new journalist contacts across all media spectrums.

  Drafting internal and external briefing materials for Travelodge hotel openings

  Support with business issues and crisis

  Support the Communications Director with high profile PR activity      


What we’ll expect from you


        Extensive experience within a Press Officer role, preferably in a busy press office for a large company or PR agency and worked with high profile brands

        Experience of event management (desirable)

        Experience of creating impactful PR plans across all media channels 

        Strong writing skills especially writing consumer related communications, with excellent attention to detail

        Extensive experience of selling in a press release to different consumer journalists

        Good range of national media contacts

        Experience of working cross departmental within a company

        High level of organisation with excellent verbal communication and creative skills

        Relentless drive, enthusiasm and conviction with a bubbly personality

        Ability to work on your own initiative and easily within a team

        Ability to work to tight deadlines and in a fast moving environment

        Ability to manage several projects at the same time

        Hands-on person who focuses on deliverables and results

        An outgoing person who is able to build relationships with colleagues and Journalists quickly

  Educated to degree level or equivalent
