The job in a nutshell

The Management Accountant (MA) will provide key support to stakeholders by ensuring accurate accounting & reporting is created to support the effective financial management of the business.


The role is a 14 month part-time (30 hours per week) fixed term contract, based at the head office in Thame.  It will require the management of specific lines in the P&L to ensure the integrity of accounting as well as regular insight and report production.


What you’ll be doing:


Month End  Overall responsibility for specific P&L lines and associated balance sheet control.

  • Ensuring the integrity of the numbers produced by review and subsequent creation and posting of accruals, prepayments and other journals.

  • Provide insight into key variances and review with relevant budget holders.

  • Support the accounting team’s month end process by meeting timetabled deadlines and proactively contributing to process close meetings with finance colleagues.

  • Produce reconciliation of balance sheet accounts up to manager review standard.

  • Building skills to critically evaluate processes and the control environment with a view to improving and identifying efficiencies.

  • Provide ad hoc cover for other members of the MA team as required


Financial reporting – Producing reports for key business areas within the allocated P&L lines.  This involves:

  • Specific cost line analysis and benchmarking.

  • Production of regular reports providing financial and commercial information to the wider business.

  • Assisting in the validation of regular reports prior to distribution.


Business Partnering – Managing the stakeholder relationships and the reporting for head office costs.  This includes:

  • Coordinating the budgeting and forecasting process for head office costs.

  • Regular reviews with key stakeholders of varying levels of seniority within the business to review performance verses budget/forecast and understand emerging trends.


Ad-hoc project based work – Travelodge is a fast moving business that often changes direction at pace which in turn generates various impromptu finance requirements to support the business that this role may be required to support from time to time.  


What we’ll expect from you


To succeed in this role you will have at least 3 years experience of working in a multi site, large volume business environment.  Ideally you will have completed the AAT qualification, or be partway through your CIMA/ACCA qualification.


You will be able to commit to a 1 year contract, have a high level of attention to detail and a proactive and flexible approach to taking on new challenges.  You will be a confident, articulate communicator and able to display a good grounding in technical accounting skills.  


A high level of competence in Microsoft Excel is a prerequisite and literacy in financial systems and reporting tools vital.  Knowledge of SUN and/or Anaplan is beneficial.
