The job in a nutshell


As IT Project Manager in our IT Operations team, you will be responsible for owning and managing technology initiatives throughout all stages of the delivery lifecycle (analysis, design, build, test, implement), starting with a new HR & Payroll system implementation.


Working closely with business stakeholders, internal IT teams and 3rd party suppliers, your primary responsibility will be to plan and deliver projects within the parameters of scope, time, cost and quality, ensuring the desired outcomes are achieved.


What you’ll be doing


  • Developing a clear understanding of problem statements, business objectives, project scope and desired outcomes/benefits.

  • Demonstrating end to end ownership of project deliverables, ensuring clear and open communication with stakeholders, setting and managing expectations throughout delivery.

  • Creating and managing a comprehensive set of project delivery plans, including milestone plans, detailed stage plans, test plans and go-live/cutover plans.

  • Identifying, negotiating and managing project resource reqs - matrix managing internal and 3rd party resources where required.

  • Defining and tracking progress against work packages, tasks and other actions across internal teams and 3rd party suppliers.

  • Proactively managing project risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies and decisions (RAIDD).

  • Creating and managing project budgets, monitoring and reporting on forecasts, actuals and exceptions.

  • Ensuring all project deliverables are effectively transitioned into operation/support, working closely with internal teams and 3rd party suppliers to ensure all requirements are met.

  • Monitoring and reporting on project progress, including status reports, presentations for steering groups or programme stakeholders.

  • Planning and coordinating the creation of business cases, project briefs, discussion papers, and facilitating stakeholder discussions/approvals required to support project initiation or ongoing decisions.

  • Working with Procurement and Legal teams to plan and manage any 3rd party procurement activities, including RFI/RFP processes, where required.

  • Supporting the continuous improvement of internal IT processes and ways of working.

  • Staying up-to-date with project management practices, methodology and emerging trends.


Budget & Staff Management Accountabilities

Management of allocated project budgets.

Line management of IT Business Analyst.

Matrix management of internal and external project resources.


What we’ll expect from you


To succeed in this role, you will be a ‘hands-on’ IT Project Manager with a proven track record of delivering enterprise scale business systems, ideally with experience of multiple HRIS implementations. You will have broad technical knowledge and be comfortable working with pace and agility to ensure the required outcomes are achieved.


You must have a strong understanding of enterprise business systems and core business processes, including HR & Payroll, but we are not expecting expert knowledge in absolutely every technology or business domain; it is more important that you can articulate what you know well and recognise when further understanding is required - be an active self-starter who can gather information and make appropriate decisions in a timely and organised manner.


Essential

  • Extensive experience as a delivery focused, ‘hands-on’ IT Project Manager, with a proven track record of delivering enterprise system implementations (ideally ERP, HRIS).

  • Broad knowledge across all technology domains (applications, data, infrastructure, security, service management), with an in-depth understanding of technical concepts.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, able to influence and manage internal and external resources to deliver the required results.

  • Experienced and competent in managing 3rd party suppliers.

  • Someone who “gets things done” with a willingness and ability to be absolutely hands-on across all stages of the delivery lifecycle.

  • A self-starter with an organised and methodical approach and with excellent planning and time-management skills. Must be able to multitask and manage a large and varied workload and demonstrate high levels of self and team organisation.

  • A keen eye and natural attention to detail, able to spot risks, issues and dependencies, and create well thought out delivery plans.

  • Ability to probe and challenge in a professional way, addressing risks and issues promptly and focusing on finding solutions to problems.


Desirable


  • BSc and/or MSc Computer Science/Business Computing or equivalent.

  • Experience as an IT PM within retail/hospitality or similar.

  • Certifications in waterfall and/or agile project management.
