The job in a nutshell


Do you have experience in participating in large scale infrastructure transformation as well as best practice operations and support? As an IT Senior Infrastructure Engineer in our IT Operations team, you will be responsible for helping to deliver our end to end enterprise IT infrastructure strategy and vision.


The primary purpose of your role will be to contribute towards planning, design, implementation, operation and support of the Travelodge technology infrastructure to meet agreed availability and performance targets within approved budgets and timelines.


Co-ordinating alongside a mix of internal resources and third party suppliers across architecture, engineering, delivery and support, you will be a member of the team which is responsible for all infrastructure services including cloud hosting, networking, infrastructure applications and end user computing at a third line level.


What you’ll be doing


  • Contributing towards the Travelodge infrastructure team strategy which is aligned with the wider IT and business strategies.
  • Working hands on with our cloud infrastructure environments, Azure, AWS and Google as well as with ourprivate Data Centre partners.
  • Day-to-day engagement with internal and third party resources as required to plan, design, build and run the enterprise IT infrastructure in conjunction with other team engineers.
  • Owning and validating individual projects assigned to you that will contribute to the architectural roadmap for infrastructure services, ensuring all solutions provide the required level of availability, performance and security.
  • Delivering projects alongside day to day tasks, prioritising within the parameters of time, cost, scope, risk, quality and benefits.
  • Help ensure all infrastructure services are managed and supported according to industry/vendor best practice, following defined processes and procedures and to meet agreed availability and performance KPIs.
  • Ensuring (in conjunction with Information Security) that all infrastructure components are managed to the appropriate level of risk with respect to security patches, software/firmware revision levels and supplier supported versions.
  • Proactively recommending and suggesting service improvements in the areas of reliability, performance, availability, security, supportability or cost.
  • Working with 3rd parties to ensure predefined DR/BCP plans are tested and completed accurately for all infrastructure services.
  • Working closely with other IT Operations and IT Delivery teams to ensure there is a coordinated approach to infrastructure delivery and operations alongside day-to-day incident management.
  • Take ownership and be responsible for assigned day-to-day operational checks and reporting to ensure stability, proactive engagement and troubleshooting of Infrastructure services.
  • Be involved with the day-to-day resolution of the infrastructure tickets assigned by the Infrastructure Support Lead to ensure they are resolved within SLA and proactively identify and remediate problems.

This role has no budget responsibility or staff management.

What we’ll expect from you


To succeed in this role, you will be a highly motivated self-starter, who is well organised and a strong team player with a good level and understanding of IT infrastructures, both on premise and in the cloud.


The ideal candidate will be someone who is confident, well organised, can easily reprioritise and has experience working alongside 3rd parties to deliver enterprise platforms with a clear strategy of “cloud first”.


The following attributes and experience are essential for this role:

  • Currently certified in Azure Infrastructure or hold a minimum of 4 years technical experience in Azure multi subscription environments
  • Hold a minimum of 4 years windows servers server management experience.
  • Be familiar with Infrastructure technologies and tools, such as IPMonitor, VMWare ESXi, Google workspace, Active directory, Microsoft SCCM, Meraki wifi and Cisco VPN.
  • Have a firm understanding of enterprise network architectures including LAN, WAN, VPN, Routing and Switching and firewalling skills.
  • Ability to switch between technical and administrative workloads on a daily basis
  • An understanding of enterprise best practice infrastructure management with a desire to include the use of automation/orchestration, telemetry, DR, monitoring and logging to improve services.
  • Working knowledge of current and future information security threats and the best way to prevent them.
  • Minimum ITIL V3+ Foundation certified and significant experience in ITIL aligned environments.
  • Be passionate about assisting direct team, and non direct team members in growing their technical skill set, through one on one training and documentation and engagement with the End User Compute team.
  • Someone who has the ability to resolve issues quickly when identified across multiple technology platforms, both in and out of hours, when required.
  • High levels of energy, drive and resilience, with the flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an inherent ability to effectively communicate with and influence others up to a senior level.
  • Drive and determination to continuously improve stability, security and customer satisfaction.
  • Be a social individual who actively participates in team events, both inside and outside of work hours.
