The job in a nutshell

As a Financial & Commercial Analyst you’ll be part of the Financial Planning and Investments Team based in Thame. Your role provides analysis, insight and actionable recommendations across the F&B and Maintenance functions to help improve business decision making and drive value creation.  In addition, you will be supporting the Senior Finance & Commercial Analyst in the preparation, review and subsequent measurement of significant financial investments. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Identify areas of commercial or operational opportunity and work with F&B and Maintenance functions to conduct analysis that provides insight on the underlying dynamics

  • Prepare detailed recommendations for implementation that maximises value creation and or mitigates emerging risks

  • Support project owners with the creation of detailed business cases that ensure senior stakeholders are well informed and results in improved decision making

  • Provide and present regular reporting with commentary to senior stakeholders with F&B and Maintenance

  • Ensure sufficient reporting is in place to provide detailed measurement and through post investment reviews analyse the success criteria in relation to the business case including but not limited to financial measures

  • Support in the development of both tactical and strategic initiatives including those forming part of longer term planning whilst not being afraid to challenge stakeholders across the business as these projects are rolled out

  • Work with the Senior Finance & Commercial Analyst during planning cycles to ensure F&B is accurately represented and aligned to current trading and future business cases

  • Provide ad-hoc analysis to the business as required

  • Provide detailed financial modelling

  • A ‘Super User’ of Travelodge’s financial systems (Anaplan) and BI tool (Qlik)

  • Finance subject matter expert in F&B and Maintenance

What we’ll expect from you


  • Finalist/newly qualified accountant from a CIMA/ACCA/ACA study route 

  • Driven self-starter and strong team player that can work independently

  • Able to spot the areas to focus on and assist in decision making process

  • Strong eye for detail and a passion for accuracy

  • Strong commercial acumen

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment taking control of your own workload managing competing priorities with tasks arising from a variety of sources with frequent tight deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal with ability to communicate financial terms effectively to non-finance staff

  • Ability to use own initiative and confident to challenge and present own point of view concisely and effectively

  • Advanced analytical skills and the ability to get into the details, while also seeing and understanding the big picture

  • Confident, articulate individual comfortable dealing with both financial and non-financial stakeholders at various levels of the company

  • Ability to work with complex data, presenting it in a user-friendly format and able to make concise and insightful observations about it

  • High level of competence in Microsoft Excel with experience of forecasts modelling is essential


  • Hospitability industry and/or multi-site retail experience

  • Experience using Anaplan, Qlik, Power BI or similar systems
