Overall role purpose

  • Support and deliver the annual F&B revenue and margin objectives for Travelodge

  • Monitor, evolve and optimise the existing F&B proposition for Travelodge across over 200 Bar Cafes and 600 vend locations

  • Identify, develop and execute F&B activity aligned to Travelodge’s strategic objectives that are ground in customer insight, are commercially and operationally viable to drive commercial performance

  • Work closely with the Senior F&B Product Manager and cross functional teams to understand, identify, engage and execute activity that delivers positive F&B performance and customer experience

  • Responsible for post-activity performance, analysis and recommendations

The job in a nutshell

As the F&B Product Marketing Manager you’ll be part of our centrally based Product & Proposition team, supporting 208 internal restaurants and 380 locations delivering snack vending and breakfast to go to. Responsible for managing, evolving and optimising our existing F&B propositions, and developing new customer products and/or propositions aligned to Travelodge’s strategic objectives that; are ground in customer insight, ensure the long-term sustainability of the brand, are commercially and operationally viable and drive commercial performance. You will both lead or support F&B project development, delivery and implementation, through management of relevant cross-functional teams and timely engagement/approval of multiple stakeholders (external and internal). Responsible for post-project performance, analysis and future recommendations. 

You’ll help develop and sustain a culture of innovation and change within a fast paced and dynamic environment, challenging the status quo, identifying new opportunities, contributing to the F&B agenda and planning process and delivering the best experience for the Travelodge guest.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Strategic and tactical Projects; supporting the F&B Product Manager on the planning and execution of strategic projects as well as leading tactical projects. Identify, measure and deliver against KPIs for each product or proposition project.

  • Commercial performance; monitor, review and identify ways to maximise the commercial performance (revenue/profit/customer) of F&B £53m+ in line with the brand proposition, through product development and delivery, category pricing reviews, value engineering, merchandising through all channels, supplier management and operational engagement and execution.

  • Insight; track and report consumer trends, customer and competitor insights, identifying risks and opportunities to current/proposed Travelodge product proposition. Use commissioned and internal customer insight; ‘Pillow Talk’, Travelodge’s customer satisfaction survey, Travelodge’s customer panel and social channels like TripAdvisor, to thoroughly understand and champion F&B from a Customer perspective. 

  • Product management and development; support the Senior F&B Product Manager with review, validation, development and delivery of changes to Travelodge F&B products and work with finance to evaluate commercial benefit of new and existing proposition developments, and ensure they are in line with customer requirements, are comparable or not competitively disadvantaged to competitors and fit with the brand’s future proposition – Delivering Affordable Travel for Everyone.

  • Project Management; own, manage and communicate F&B project plans, ensuring stakeholder engagement, alignment and execution. Project management will include presenting and updating to senior stakeholders.

  • Promotional plan; deliver the F&B promotional plan to grow revenue and margin working collaboratively with finance, brand, suppliers and operations. Continuous review and improvement of promotional activity in response to performance, customer and operational insight.

  • Prestay communications: manage the delivery of our prestay communications working collaboratively with our brand and digital teams to develop and deliver all activity to grow guest conversion to our food and drink offer in the prestay journey. Work collaboratively with the digital team and brand team to ensure F&B is interpreted consistently on our website, eCRM and digital channels. 

  • Finance and budget management; work with finance to evaluate the commercial benefit of new and existing F&B activity. Manage cost and value engineering, balancing quality and customer need to achieve the best solution. Manage the F&B budget effectively and ensure value for money is achieved.

  • Reporting; collate, review and provide timely actionable insight on F&B performance and initiatives to inform both the business and future F&B activity. 

  • Stakeholder relationships; build and maintain strong working relationships within the Sales & Marketing, Operations, Finance and Procurement teams and external suppliers and agencies.

  • Suppliers; build, manage and maintain good working relationships with our product suppliers, ensuring commeriality, SLAs are met, continual product innovation and delivery of best value for money

What we’ll expect from you

We will consider this role on either 4 or 5 days per week.


In the F&B Product Manager role you will need to ‘spin lots of plates’, meet tight deadlines and be able to keep stakeholders and managers up to date with progress regularly to be effective and deliver results.  You will have broader objectives or projects that you will be working on alongside supporting the F&B Product Manager.

  • You need to have an excellent understanding of F&B proposition development and delivery and have a minimum of 5 years F&B experience in a restaurant, hospitality, retail or food service environment and preferably degree qualified (or equivalent) in marketing. 

  • Be able to interpret customer and market data into valuable insight. 

  • Have a strong blend of commercial acumen and creativity with an understanding of food and drink pricing and margins and the ability to balance customer needs and commercial sense.

  • Strong project management expertise, working to critical paths and deadlines.

  • The ability to lead, engage and motivate cross-functional teams, work in a collaborative manner with other areas of business and can work across a broad spectrum of activity. 

  • The ability to innovate

  • Proactive and highly motivated, a self-starter in a rapid results driven environment.

  • Strong organisational skills, a can-do approach, willing to get involved and focussed on delivery.

  • Have attention to detail

  • Passionate about the brand and able to manage multiple projects and work strands. 

  • Be a problem solver, able to think of innovative solutions to complex problems.

  • You should enjoy and have an ability to work in a high volume, fast paced, central support and service environment. This busy environment involves working with a small group of colleagues as well as a wider cross functional group of stakeholders and support network, so effective team working is a key requirement of the role.
