The job in a nutshell

  • Be a key part of our continuing expansion plans, overseeing the construction of new Travelodge hotels by our Development partners
  • Work with our Operational, Facilities and other support teams in the run up to practical completion and commencement of trading
  • Provide ongoing support to each new hotel in its initial trading period, ensuring quick close out of post completion defects to protect revenue generation and the guest experience

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting our Development Team where required to enable completion of feasibility studies for potential new sites
  • Take on responsibility for completed development agreements from our Development Team at the point the project is ready to go on site
  • Ensure hotels are built to the Travelodge specification and required standard of finish
  • Manage our team of Outsourced Cost and Project Monitoring Consultants including their coordination of all orders for directly supplied fixtures and fittings
  • Attending meetings for each new hotel project as required, which will involve regular travelling
  • Ensure Travelodge Health and Safety requirements are reflected in all elements of the project ( that we can influence)
  • Ensure that we constantly review process, specification and practical application to provide the best possible value for Travelodge and a product that meets customer expectations
  • Support our Brand Design team in developing new concept initiatives and in general evolution of our hotel design
  • Monitoring on-going costs for all projects and reporting these to the Head of Construction on a regular basis
  • Liaise with our New Openings team, Facilities team and other support departments in respect of all new hotel opening matters
  • Assist our Procurement team in conducting periodic reviews of our commercial agreements
  • Key to this role is to develop and maintain excellent internal and external relationships, through regular and clear communication
  • Liaising with Regional Facility Managers and the helpdesk facility at the point of practical completion to ensure each new hotel is incorporated into our helpdesk processes

Role Dimensions (Budget & Staff Management Accountabilities)

  • Budget responsibility of circa £6M direct Travelodge spend per annum
  • Delivery responsibility for up to 10 new hotels per annum
  • Relationship management responsibility for services of of circa 6 outsourced consultant professionals

What we’ll expect from you

To succeed in this role, you will need to be experienced in the field of property development. You will need to engage with our Operational and Support Teams as internal customers; be passionate about customer service, performance management and delivering results. You will be comfortable travelling, working at pace, under pressure and with analytical and goal-oriented targets. Communicating regularly and effectively with the wider team will be paramount to success in this role.

As well as this you’ll demonstrate the following key skills:


  • Proven track record in delivering projects on time, on budget and to agreed specification
  • Excellent communication skills to develop trust and respect at all levels within the organisation and strong working relationships with peers / key stakeholders
  • High levels of energy, drive and resilience, with the flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • 5-10 years of experience working in Construction Project Management
  • Knowledge of JCT Design and Build from of contract
  • Sound knowledge of the development process, particularly developer led projects
  • Recognised qualification in project management
  • Budget management skills / experience
  • Experience in the budget hotel/ hotel industry or fast track retail
  • An absolute affinity with the Travelodge brand
