The job in a nutshell

This is a 12 month fixed term contract.


Manage and support the existing Payroll team at Travelodge  and ensure operations continue to run smoothly, efficiently and accurately while the existing Payroll Manager steps away to focus on the configuration and implementation of a new Payroll and work management system.

The successful candidate will help to maintain the current high performance standards, managing queries within existing response times and continuing to deliver excellent payroll support in line with expectations.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading, managing and developing the payroll team

  • Be the point of escalation for the payroll team for unresolved queries

  • Managing the relationship with the outsourced provider Fourth Hospitality payroll bureau, including service level reviews & escalations where required

  • Managing queries from the Year End process, submissions and P11d's

  • Overseeing monthly and weekly payrolls ensuring they are processed efficiently, effectively, accurately and on time

  • Approving and raising payments for external agencies by required deadlines (PAYE, Salary Finance, Pension Providers etc)

  • Managing and maintaining payroll KPI's

  • Managing the Auto Enrolment processes and administer the Travelodge pension schemes

  • Managing the pension reconciliations and payments

  • Managing payroll audit requirements with external auditors

  • Maintaining and applying knowledge of any relevant payroll and employment legislation to ensure ongoing compliance

Stakeholder management 

  • Build strong internal stakeholder relationships at all levels across the Finance team and the wider business

  • Key stakeholders are the Financial Controller, Operational Finance team, People Services team

What we’ll expect from you

You will ideally have or be working towards a CIPP Degree in Payroll Management.  You will have a proactive approach, with excellent communication skills.

Qualified payroll professional (CIPP Degree in Payroll Management or QBE as Payroll Supervisor for 2+ years )

Strong communication skills

Proactive attitude

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse areas of the business

Good systems knowledge.  Experience of Fourth Hospitality People system an advantage.

Background in operating and managing payrolls in similar sized businesses
