16th March 2004

Travelodge, the UK’s only low-cost hotel chain, is following its radical introduction of a £25 per night room rate with an off-the-wall marketing exploit to prove it’s the smartest choice for customers. In a first for its sector, Travelodge will launch a fleet of branded Smart cars carrying the message: ‘Comfy rooms from £25, only at www.travelodge.co.uk.’ 8 brightly coloured Smart cars in total will be deployed throughout the UK over the coming months.

Simon Gregory, sales and marketing director at Travelodge, explains: “The Smart cars will be used to generate greater awareness and visibility of our new £25 room rate and will be driven around the most populated areas of the UK in order to gain maximum impact. We chose the Smart car as like Travelodge it provides you with everything you need and nothing you don’t.”

The Smart cars will be driving around central London until 26th March and will follow a route that includes Moorgate, London Wall, St Martin’s Lane, Cheapside, Poultry, Cornhill and Leadenhall Street. Then the fleet will be driving up north to Harrogate to the support the new Travelodge opening in April.

Available exclusively via the Travelodge website (www.travelodge.co.uk), the year-round lowest rate of £25 per night will be available for more than 500,000 rooms in the coming year.
