Alum Bay (Isle of Wight)
Alum Bay beach is without a doubt one of the most scenic beaches on the Isle of Wight. This mainly shingle beach, located at the most westerly tip of the island is framed by the iconic chalk stacks known as The Needles, with the world-famous coloured sands with 21 different shades.
The clear turquoise waters here are popular with local swimmers and ideal for children to splash around in. And you can get closer to the Needles by taking a pleasure cruise. Or simply enjoy watching the boat moor in the bay during the day and the fishermen enjoying the tranquillity at dusk.
Above Alum Bay beach stands The Needles Landmark Attraction, where you will find a host of attractions, cafes, shops, and the Sand Shop where you can take home your own sand from the beach as a souvenir. Alum bay beach is accessible by foot via the steps that lead to the picturesque chine or ride the iconic chairlift from The Needles Landmark Attraction.
