This guided tour takes you through the city centre, where you'll learn all about the chocolately exploits of the Tuke, Rowntree, Terry and Craven families. In the Factory Zone, you can see how chocolate's made, before sampling some for yourself.

While we're on the subject of sweet treats, York is home to Betty's Tea Rooms, a tea and cake emporium on St Helen's Square.

Betty's is famous for its traditional English afternoon teas, extensive drinks menu and delicious selection of cakes. The tea room is so popular, it gets very busy - so get there early or be prepared to queue.

Shop 'til you drop in York city centre

If you fancy doing a bit of shopping, York is a great place to find a bargain or two. Its high street is lined with retail giants like Next and Topshop, but York's also a treasure trove of independent shops, too.

York's most famous street is The Shambles, a cobbled medieval street lined with boutiques and sweet shops. It's the perfect place to hunt for gems from jewellery to fine chocolates.
